Specific Job Details Middle School Band Director responsible for developing musical talents of students in grades 5-7. Band students range in ability from entry level to advanced. Position may also include teaching General Music classes. Requires in‑ and out‑of‑school commitments such as public performances, Honors Festivals, Auditions, and Fundraising Events. Ideal candidate has well‑rounded background and willingness to direct or assist with extracurricular musical activities.
Under general supervision of the School Principal, develop students’ understanding and appreciation of music, performing a wide range of musical genres, periods, and styles, and promoting each student’s talent in vocal musical expression.

Brief Job Duties The ideal candidate will have experience in the following areas:
Develops and administers music education curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
Develops a balanced music program and lessons to organize class time so that students have adequate time for preparation, rehearsal, and instruction.
Conducts ongoing assessment of student musical learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
Utilizes a varied repertoire of music literature that spans time periods, genres, and styles, as appropriate.
Plans, coordinates, and directs rehearsals for musical programs and performances outside the classroom.
Full Job Description Certification/License Certification from the Maine Department of Education. Criminal History Record Check (CHRC), which includes fingerprints on file with the Maine Department of Education.
Education Bachelor’s from an accredited college or university in education or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment. Master’s Degree in a related field is preferred.
Experience Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels is preferred but not required.
