Department This position is within FSU’s Department of Information Technology Services (ITS). This position is a member of the Information Services Report team within the Division of University Advancement. The Division of University Advancement supports Florida State University’s mission of teaching, scholarship and public service through our mission of enhancing the university’s leadership, reputation and private financial support in academics, research, service and athletics.
Responsibilities The Information Services Report team is responsible for collaborating with advancement personnel, fulfilling data and report requests, and providing end‑user support for enterprise reporting software. They develop ad‑hoc queries and reports, create data models and visualizations, and participate in testing and validation efforts. Additionally, they review technical solution designs, use a ticket system to track issues, and participate in committees on data migration.
The Assistant Director, Technology Services (Data Systems and Analytics) is responsible for the strategic direction, development, and maintenance of the Division of University Advancement’s data architecture and business intelligence ecosystem. This role oversees the division's enterprise data warehouse (Snowflake) and the comprehensive reporting strategy, primarily utilizing Power BI and Salesforce CRM analytics tools. The Assistant Director manages the data engineering and analytics team, directing the design of robust ETL/ELT pipelines (via Boomi and Python) to ensure data integrity, high‑performance reporting, and actionable insights that drive organizational decision‑making.
Direct the architecture, maintenance, and optimization of the division's enterprise data warehouse (Snowflake). Oversee the design of data models, schemas, and storage solutions to ensure high availability and performance for complex analytical queries.
Consult with the reporting team, departmental stakeholders, and ITS peers to facilitate growth and adaptation for new requests and ideas. Act as a technical advisor to translate business requirements into actionable data solutions and innovative reporting strategies within Power BI and the Salesforce ecosystem.
Lead the strategy and execution of data integration and ETL processes. Direct data movement across the ecosystem using industry‑standard tools such as Boomi and Python. Ensure the reliability and scalability of pipelines connecting Salesforce, the data warehouse, and external sources.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the reporting and analytics teams. Direct day‑to‑day operations for the data systems team and assist in the day‑to‑day operations of the reporting team, ensuring adherence to coding standards, documentation practices, and University data governance policies.
Manage departmental budget for analytics software and licensing. Use the ticketing system to track data quality issues and develop long‑term solutions for systemic data discrepancies.
Qualifications Bachelor's degree and four years' experience related to technical services or a high school diploma or equivalent and eight years of experience. (Note: or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to eight years.)
Preferred Qualifications Experience and work history with Snowflake, Microsoft SQL, and Microsoft 365 cloud products, including Power BI and Fabric. Experience using Python, Boomi, and other tools to extract, transform, and load data between systems. Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership, mentoring staff, or leading data engineering and analytics initiatives, including coordinating work across teams and translating business needs into scalable data solutions.

During this period, the division is in the midst of a large‑scale CRM conversion that includes a redesign of the enterprise data warehouse strategy in Snowflake. Early involvement in this work—reviewing existing architecture, supporting data integration and reporting needs, and assisting with planning and transition efforts—will be highly valuable. As onboarding progresses, the role will increasingly contribute to technical and strategic decision‑making, identify opportunities for improvement, and help guide the evolution of data systems and analytics in support of the conversion and beyond.
