THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Environmental Protection Compliance Specialist, you will carry out compliance assistance activities within the oil and gas program, monitor and assess regulatory adherence, and support the development of formal enforcement actions. Your work will include evaluating compliance and enforcement efforts within an assigned area, ensuring accurate data entry, and preparing detailed reports with recommendations based on your findings. You will also play a key role in providing training and technical guidance to field staff, the regulated community, and the public on applicable rules, regulations, policies, and enforcement strategies.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Performing compliance assistance activities related to oil and gas programs
  • Tracking, assessing, and documenting compliance with environmental regulations
  • Reviewing and preparing formal enforcement actions when violations occur
  • Conducting evaluations of compliance and enforcement programs within assigned areas
  • Entering accurate and complete information into the department's data systems
  • Preparing detailed reports with findings, conclusions, and recommended actions
  • Developing and delivering training and technical assistance to field personnel, regulated entities, and the public
  • Interpreting and explaining rules, regulations, policies, and enforcement procedures

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Pittsburgh. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of professional experience as a Sanitarian, Air Quality Specialist, Solid Waste Specialist, or Water Quality Specialist (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training which affords the applicant the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.


Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
