Job Description The Commercial Underwriting Training and Development Consultant plays a critical role in elevating both the technical underwriting capabilities and agency management proficiency of the underwriting organization. Underwriting COE Work Arrangement
Employees who live within 30 miles of the TMG home office are expected to follow a hybrid or in-office schedule. The initial training period may require additional in‑office days. Accountabilities
Collaborates with Underwriting and Quality Assurance to identify training needs and develop effective, consistent training aligned with underwriting best practices and regulatory requirements. Equips underwriters with the skills needed to manage territories, deliver profitable growth, and build strong agency partnerships. This includes pipeline and portfolio management, agency planning, and execution of jointly developed action plans in collaboration with Distribution. Coordinates all phases of curriculum design and development across multiple underwriting roles. Provides a structured onboarding program for external hires. Partners with key business areas (Distribution, Quality Audit, Product, Claims, Loss Control, Actuarial) to integrate relevant subject matter into training programs. Ensures underwriting excellence in risk selection, pricing, coverage analysis, data‑driven decision making, and territory management. Develops varied and flexible training materials and delivery methods including in‑person, virtual, and digital/on‑demand content, supplemented by third‑party resources as needed. Delivers continuous training on products, processes, guidelines, and market intelligence. Develops and maintains a centralized training records database for all underwriting personnel. Monitors employee development and evaluates training program effectiveness, updating curriculum as appropriate. Training Needs Assessment
Utilizes underwriting file audits, production results, profit metrics, and agency survey findings to identify targeted training needs. Communication & Change Management
Coordinates communication of underwriting guideline and procedural changes to internal staff and appropriate external stakeholders. Process & Strategy Support
Participates in strategic initiatives related to continuous improvement and operational excellence. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a training-related field required. Minimum 3 years of commercial property and casualty underwriting training experience. Strong oral and written communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint). Experience developing onboarding programs for technical or functional teams. Ability to assess training needs using Quality Audit findings and production metrics. Experience providing structured feedback to new hires throughout onboarding. Broad understanding of P&C insurance terminology, practices, processes, and regulations. Ability to work effectively within a matrixed team environment. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and concisely. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage high work volume and tight deadlines. Proficiency in data analytics and Excel to support portfolio objectives, underwriting decisions, and corporate initiatives. Pay Range
Anticipated Hiring Range: $70,000 - $100,000 annual base salary depending on experience, qualifications, and geographic location Benefits
