We are looking for a Senior Strategic Communications Consultant to be a member of our Strategic Communications program, a global team of communicators who are passionate about putting people first in planning and infrastructure. As a full-service communications, engagement, and creative practice, we develop and implement ideas to bring people together in projects of every size and sector. We help people get to know each other, foster understanding, and build more connected, equitable, and sustainable communities.

As a Senior Strategic Communications Consultant, you are a known and respected expert in your field. You have a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities that infrastructure is facing today and will continue to face in the future. You will manage tasks within your area of specialty in support of communications and engagement activities on infrastructure projects. You will work collaboratively as part of a broader Strategic Communications team and collaborate with Communications Managers, Project Managers, HDR leadership, and clients. In this role, you will be expected to stay up to date in your field, and the public and private infrastructure industry, apply your expertise to infrastructure projects, and build HDR’s reputation in the market.

Core Technical Responsibilities

Provide advisory and consulting services to executive level leadership across various industries

Drive market development in partnership with Strategic Communications leadership

Advise communication and engagement strategy on planning, design, and construction projects

Lead strategic messaging direction for campaign activities

Direct customer-facing communication in a variety of mediums including social, print, video and web

Lead concept development, writing and editing of collateral materials such as surveys, newsletters, websites, handouts, videos, advertisements, press releases and public notices

Coordinate with creative disciplines including graphic design, web development and social media to maintain consistency of client brand, saturation of messaging and user experience

Coordinate with technical disciplines to accurately translate technical content into easily digestible public facing content

Other Job Responsibilities

Develop and manage project scopes, schedules, and budgets

Lead the development of content related to your area of expertise for pursuits and proposals

Direct the work of others and ensure quality of work

Independently represent HDR at the highest levels within our clients’ organizations

Serve as the primary client contact for work within your area of expertise

Build and maintain productive working relationships with your team, internal partners, and clients

Support and mentor staff

Participate in industry events, committees, boards and personal professional development opportunities

Willingness to travel (up to 30% of time) and ability to drive or independently get oneself to project locations

Perform other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree

Familiarity with AI-powered productivity tools

15 years professional experience in communications, public relations, marketing, community engagement, or closely related field

Deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities that infrastructure is facing today and will continue to face in the future

Professional experience in the infrastructure industry, specifically power, transportation, and/or water infrastructure

Track record of leading successful communications strategy and work products

Strong written, verbal communication and organizational skills with great attention to detail

Ability to handle multiple assignments at a time, prioritize among tasks, and set and meet deadlines

Service- and client-oriented attitude with experience working with remote teams/clients

Creativity and ability to think outside the box and the desire to learn and grow professionally

General professionalism and ability to represent HDR in front of clients

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related field

A minimum of 5 years related experience

Efficient use of the internet and other electronic and hard copy media for research

Strong Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Project and Visio skills

Expert Microsoft Access and Excel skills

Strong analytical skills with the ability to compile and present summary level information

Ability to obtain, cleanse, merge and analyze data from multiple sources

Excellent interpersonal skills and strong relationship, organizational and follow-up skills

Self-starter with proven track record of accomplishments
