A well-established, wholesale/retail company is seeking a Senior Director of Accounting to lead key accounting operations and financial reporting functions. This leadership role will partner cross-functionally across the organization, drive process improvements, and oversee critical accounting areas in a fast-paced environment.
This role is based in New York City and follows a hybrid work schedule.
Responsibilities
Lead the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
Manage and develop a high-performing accounting team, providing leadership, mentorship, and process guidance across multiple business channels.
Partner cross-functionally with FP&A, operations, supply chain, and sales teams to improve financial visibility and support strategic decision-making.
Ensure proper accounting treatment for complex retail and wholesale arrangements, including discounts, returns, allowances, and vendor agreements.
Oversee inventory accounting, reserves, and cost accounting processes, including coordination with third-party manufacturers and distribution partners.
Strengthen internal controls and ensure compliance with audit requirements, SOX (if applicable), and company accounting policies.
Drive process improvements, systems implementations, and automation initiatives to scale accounting operations with company growth.
Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
12-15 years of accounting experience
Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and revenue recognition
Experience in consumer products, wholesale, distribution, or related industries
Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Salary: $170,000 – $225,000 + Bonus
