Senior Manager, Strategy & Operations Market Access Strategy
The Senior Manager, Strategy and Operations, US Market Access Strategy is a key partner and advisor to the VP US Market Access Strategy and the Market Access Strategy Leadership Team (MAS‑LT) on a variety of strategic, operational, and organizational matters. The role requires both strategic thinking and the ability to drive project management, and operational execution through preparing, implementing, and effectively managing tactical initiatives. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated and organized individual with exceptional emotional intelligence, communication skills, and judgment, able to manage complex details, understand the business, and drive actions within budget parameters. This role reports directly into the Vice President of US Market Access Strategy.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Support the US Market Access Strategy Team in developing and implementing decisions that impact team operations and strategic direction.
Support the VP in defining and developing high‑impact executive, cross‑functional, and cross‑team communications.
Develop and maintain the department budget in collaboration with leadership and finance, providing transparency into spend, explaining forecast variance, and managing tools to maximize budget use.
Lead or support critical business processes relevant to US Market Access Strategy, including the evolution of organizational design, Business Reviews, Long‑Range Planning, annual Business Planning, and scaling internal operations.
Lead and/or manage special projects and high‑profile initiatives, as appropriate and aligned with critical business needs.
Quarterback narrative development of Business Reviews, senior management presentations, team presentations, and meetings.
Lead after‑action reviews of high‑impact projects; provide recommendations for process and system simplification. Identify and proactively plan to address business needs to ensure team success.
Coordinate leadership team meetings and forums, including pull‑through of action items.
Ideate and coordinate the pull‑through of HR, talent‑development, and team‑culture related initiatives and activities.
Act as a liaison between cross‑functional colleagues to ensure alignment and coordination on a wide variety of initiatives.
Compile succinct reports and prepare minutes for internal meetings; methodically track all action items and find new ways to stay abreast of multi‑dimensional tasks.
Contribute to best practices of project management and departmental operations to support the continued success and evolution of the department.
Knowledge and Skills
Experience in cross‑functional execution, including medium to large‑scale projects.
Critical‑thought partner with proven ability to connect people and ideas to drive outcomes.
Ability to connect with multiple divisions and functions throughout Vertex.
Ability to manage multiple priorities/projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines, budgets, and status updates.
Developed communication skills with the ability to synthesize data and information into meaningful insights.
Very detail‑oriented with strong project/operations management skills.
Ability to handle ambiguity.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree required; master’s degree preferred.
5+ years of progressive, relevant experience, with demonstrated experience as a chief of staff in project management and organizing multiple teams and departments, ideally within the healthcare sector, especially within Market Access.
Outstanding communication of information and ideas, both written and verbal, to diverse audiences; employs active listening skills.
Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to influence multiple stakeholders; builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members.
Significant experience in managing complex project teams and proven ability to work in and influence a cross‑functional team; solution‑oriented mindset.
Excellent communication, analytical, and business planning skills.
Self‑motivated; acts independently and prioritizes appropriately; embraces unexpected changes or challenges and drives to improved solutions.
Pay Range $139,200 - $208,800
Flex Designation Hybrid‑Eligible or On‑Site Eligible
Flex Eligibility Status In this Hybrid‑Eligible role, you can choose to be designated as:
Hybrid: work remotely up to two days per week; or
On‑Site: work five days per week on‑site with ad hoc flexibility.
