The Property Tax Assistance Division (PTAD) provides technical assistance to local governments and taxpayers on property tax issues, while maintaining jurisdiction to intervene only as authorized. PTAD is organized into four areas: outreach and support, education and communications, field appraisals, and data analysis. General Description
The Comptroller’s Office is seeking a Residential Field Appraiser in PTAD. This role performs journey‑level appraisal work, including property value ratio studies, gathering property sales information, and conducting various property appraisals. The appraiser represents the Division in formal and informal appeals and works within a multiple‑county region under the direction of a supervisor and lead appraiser. Work Hours
Agency standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., 40 hours per week with occasional evening and weekend hours. Hours are subject to change based on business needs. This is an opportunity to work remotely from home and perform the School District Property Value Study within an assigned region. Candidates must reside or be willing to reside in one of the following counties. Gulf Coast – Residential

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited high school or successful completion of the GED. Six (6) years of appraisal work such as residential, commercial, or personal property. Preferred Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance, management, or real estate. Eight (8) years of residential appraisal experience utilizing the income, cost, and market approach. Licenses/Certifications
Appraiser II requires the holder to have a Level IV RPA designation or another professional appraiser designation. A valid Texas (or state of residency) driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record. Applicants offered an interview must present a state‑issued driving record for the last 36 months, a valid Texas driver’s license, and current proof of automobile insurance. In this role you will
Apply local cost modifiers, develop land schedules based on sales, consult industry publications, and gather income and expense information on commercial properties. Inspects properties and contacts buyers and sellers for market value data, verifies and analyzes sales data, performs detailed research, and enters data into the Field Appraiser System (FAS). Prepare economic or statistical reports, examine and verify real estate records, research assessed values, and construct property samples from information and appraisal. Participate in formal and informal appeals, provide testimony in legal proceedings, review evidence, prepare detailed reports of findings, and make recommendations. Perform additional tasks related to duties as assigned. Benefits
