General Description This position is eligible for a $5,000 Recruitment Bonus. A truly unique opportunity at a special site – 20,000 acres of rugged and undeveloped land on the cleanest river in Texas. The position is based at the remote Del Norte Unit of Devils River State Natural Area located on Dolan Creek Rd; which is approximately 1.5 hours (one‑way) from Del Rio. Under the direction of the Complex Superintendent, this position performs complex (journey‑level) park/historic site management work including overseeing the preservation, protection, administration, and maintenance of the Devils River State Natural Area (DRSNA) Del Norte Unit.

Responsibilities

Visitor and customer service

Cultural and natural resource protection and stewardship

Financial management, including budget planning, preparation, and monitoring

Revenue management

Human resources management, including recruitment and retention

Security and safety programs

Maintenance and repair of facilities, grounds, and equipment

Public relations, marketing, and promotion

Interpretive and educational program management, including engaging in community outreach

Coordinating special events

Volunteer development and cultivating partnerships

Lead team to fulfill the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) Mission and embody the department’s core values

Serve as DRSNA lead superintendent in their absence

Responsible for other assigned projects required by the Region and Austin headquarters

Work under general supervision, with moderate latitude for initiative and independent judgment

Perform additional duties as assigned

Comply with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures

Qualifications

Education:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree

Experience:

Three years of experience in (1) natural and cultural resource management; OR (2) interpretation or education; OR (3) general maintenance; OR (4) public safety; OR (5) promotions or public relations or marketing. Two years of experience as a supervisor or team leader.

NOTE: Experience may have occurred concurrently.

Licensure:

Must possess a valid state driver’s license.

Acceptable Substitutions:

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) employees hired prior to January 1, 1998, with no break in service and with a minimum of sixty semester hours may substitute two years of TPWD experience in park/historic site management, supervision, or operations for the required degree.
