This position is eligible for a $5,000 Recruitment Bonus. A unique opportunity at a 20,000-acre site along the Devils River, based at the remote Del Norte Unit of Devils River State Natural Area located on Dolan Creek Rd, approximately 1.5 hours from Del Rio. Under the direction of the Complex Superintendent, this position performs complex (journey-level) park/historic site management work including overseeing preservation, protection, administration, and maintenance of the Devils River State Natural Area (DRSNA) Del Norte Unit. Responsibilities include: visitor and customer service; cultural and natural resource protection and stewardship; financial management, budget planning/preparation/monitoring; revenue management; human resources management; security and safety programs; maintenance and repair of facilities, grounds, and equipment; customer service; public relations, marketing, and promotion; interpretive and educational program management; community outreach; and coordinating special events. Engages in volunteer development and partnerships. Leads team to fulfill the TPWD Mission and department core values. Serves as DRSNA lead superintendent in absence. Other duties as assigned. Complies with all agency rules and procedures. NOTE: Salary range is limited to commissioned officers in the park management track prior to 9/1/2020. State Park Law Enforcement ladder eligibility requirements must be met to advance from the base rate. NOTE: Located along the Devils River, staff should be comfortable operating kayaks & canoes, including overnight kayak patrols to conduct river/campsite maintenance. Minimum Qualifications
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree. Experience: Three years in natural/cultural resource management or related fields; two years of supervisor or team leadership; other categories listed in the posting. Note: Experience may have occurred concurrently. Licensure: Must possess a valid state driver's license. Substitutions & Preferences
Substitutions: TPWD employees hired prior to Jan 1, 1998, with 60+ semester hours may substitute two years of TPWD experience for the required degree. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or higher in related fields; experience as a park/historic site manager or supervisor; experience in revenue/budget management; community outreach and partnerships. Knowledge of park/historic site administration, natural/cultural resource management, revenue accounting, interpretation/education, maintenance, and resource management. Live on-site in State housing with monthly deduction; work in public park with overnight camping; 40 hours/week with varied schedules; respond to emergencies; travel 10% with possible overnight stays; manual labor up to 50 lbs; outdoor work in varying weather; TPWD safety rules; may operate State vehicle; non-smoking environment in all state buildings and vehicles.
