GENERAL DESCRIPTION Under the direction of the Park Management and Maintenance Supervisor at Fort Richardson State Park, this position performs complex (journey-level) building maintenance and construction work including daily operation of park facilities, grounds, equipment operations, and visitor services. Operates all types of equipment such as trucks, tractors, mowers, and power tools. Provides quality visitor services by giving information to visitors and assists in enforcing park rules and regulations. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES Perform complex building maintenance and construction work; operate park facilities, grounds, equipment, and vehicles; provide visitor services; enforce park rules; maintain equipment; conduct manual labor including lifting supplies up to 50 lbs; perform work outdoors in varied weather; respond to emergencies; work overtime as needed; adjust to changing schedules; maintain safety programs; inspect facilities according to safety protocol; travel within state as required.

QUALIFICATIONS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Graduation from High School or GED. Experience: Three years of facility, equipment or grounds maintenance experience. Licensure: Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid state driver’s license.

ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS: Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience with a maximum substitution of two years.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working with the public; customer service and public relations experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of building and facility repair techniques such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical or mechanical maintenance.

Knowledge of general maintenance and custodial duties.

Knowledge of basic mathematics.

Knowledge of safety programs including procedures and personal protective equipment.

Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

Skill in effective verbal and written communication.

Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner.

Skill in using various hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, chain saws, tractors, vehicles, generators and other mechanical equipment.

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts.

Skill in making independent, sound and timely decisions.

Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.

Ability to work effectively and courteously with the public and co-workers.

Ability to work as a member of a team.

Ability to maintain flexibility and work with frequent interruptions and multiple changing priorities.

Ability to inspect facilities in accordance with safety program.

Ability to perform manual labor including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.

Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Required to work in a public park with overnight camping.

Required to work 40 hours per week, including various schedules, with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

Required to respond to emergencies and on-call situations.

Required to work overtime as necessary and to adjust to a changing schedule.

Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.

Required to perform manual labor including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.

May be required to operate a state vehicle.

Required to travel 5.
