TPWD - Maintenance Specialist III (Operations Ranger)

Under the direction of the Assistant Park Superintendent and Lead Maintenance Specialist, this position performs complex (journey-level) building maintenance and construction work including all phases of maintenance and repair to facilities, buildings, equipment, and grounds at Fort Parker State Park. Duties may include but are not limited to cabin, restroom, and grounds cleaning, maintenance, and upkeep. Assists other staff with completion of functions and park maintenance necessary to meet public expectations and all park visitors’ needs. Follows purchasing procedures for supplies, tools, equipment, etc. Position may act as a certified pesticide applicator, overseeing various phases of pesticide application throughout the park. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from High School or GED.

Experience: Three years facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance experience.

Licensure: Must possess a valid State Driver’s License at the time of hire.

ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS

Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience in facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance, with a maximum substitution of two years.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Three years of experience in electrical, carpentry, or plumbing repairs to buildings, facilities, and grounds.

Experience in basic vehicle and/or small engine repair.

Experience working with the public.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of general facility, equipment, and grounds maintenance techniques and repairs.

Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, masonry, janitorial, and mechanical maintenance and repair tasks.

Knowledge of the construction, repair, maintenance, and operation of buildings, equipment, and utility systems.

Knowledge of general custodial duties.

Knowledge of building materials.

Skill in using MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Skill in effective verbal and written communication.

Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner.

Skill in making minor repairs to small equipment and vehicles in the daily operation of the park.

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts.

Skill in making independent, sound, and timely decisions.

Skill in using hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, tractors, vehicles, generators and other mechanical equipment.

Skill in selecting appropriate tools and equipment and in troubleshooting situations to determine appropriate actions to resolve problems.

Skill in managing several projects simultaneously.

Skill in training others.

Ability to work as a member of a team.

Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment.

Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.

Ability to maintain flexibility and work with frequent interruptions and multiple and changing priorities.

Ability to assist with interpreting and enforcing park rules and regulations.

Ability to follow instructions.
