Position Summary Reporting to the Senior Director of Special Events, the Senior Assistant Director for University Events is responsible for assisting with the development and execution of all signature events for Fordham University. This includes coordinating major events such as Commencement, Convocation, and Town Halls, fostering donor and community engagement, and ensuring these events support fundraising and stewardship goals.
Essential Functions
Develop concepts, themes, formats, procedures and timelines for major events.
Coordinate vendors and negotiate contracts for catering, entertainment, lighting/audio, staging, photography, security, and services.
Work with consultants and vendors before and during events to ensure flawless execution.
Record budget expenditures and facilitate financial reporting to internal departments.
Manage and edit content for event correspondence, collateral materials, and web content in collaboration with marketing colleagues.
Assist with post‑event coordination including debrief meetings and financial reporting.
Management Responsibilities Provide peer‑level coordination or guidance to colleagues performing similar work and/or student and part‑time workers, helping organize tasks, clarify priorities, or review work for quality.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree.
Minimum of 4 years of experience in event planning and execution.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Skilled in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and events‐related software (e.g., check‑in and seating apps).
Excellent time management, organization, and multitasking abilities.
Detail‑oriented with a focus on quality and client satisfaction.
Demonstrated quick and effective problem‑solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with customer relations/management databases.
Experience with hybrid or virtual event execution and platforms (e.g., Zoom Webinar).
Familiarity with project management software (e.g., Monday.com).
Salary
Minimum Starting Salary: $78,000
Maximum Starting Salary: $85,000
Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
