Job Summary The Director, Claims - Coverage will manage claims‑related coverage litigation involving Everest Insurance companies and provide coverage support to Claims and Underwriting. The position will report to the VP of Claims – Coverage.

This is a hybrid position based in either Warren, NJ, New York City or Philadelphia, PA, working 3 days onsite, 2 remote.

Responsibilities

Responsible for all aspects of claim‑related lawsuits and arbitrations involving Everest companies, ensuring that appropriate and cost‑effective resolution strategies are in place

Oversee and manage day‑to‑day litigation activities in partnership with Claims, Law and Underwriting colleagues and counsel

Maintain “Best Practices” for handling coverage litigation, including budgeting, reserving, and implementing appropriate resolution strategies

Supervise outside counsel and ensure compliance with guidelines for coverage counsel with respect to litigated and non‑litigated matters, in collaboration and consultation with internal stakeholders

Provide pre‑litigation coverage support to N.A. Claims team to prevent unnecessary litigation, drive quality and consistency of coverage positions, and strategies across all lines of business

Present to senior management on matters presenting significant exposures or matters with broader legal and/or strategic implications

Support Underwriting with respect to policy wording/drafting and analyzing impact of policy language

Collaborate with Law Department on bad faith claims and/or extra‑contractual matters arising out of claims handling

Qualifications, Education & Experience

Extensive coverage litigation experience in state and federal courts as practicing attorney and/or claims professional

Demonstrated experience handling complex coverage matters

Excellent presentation skills

Strong organizational skills with ability to effectively time manage and multi‑task

Highly collaborative, growth mindset with ability to initiate and develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders

Strategic thinker with innovative and solution‑oriented approach to conflict resolution

JD required

Base Salary & Benefits The base salary range for this position is $150,000 - $200,000 annually. The offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, experience, qualifications and work location. All offers include access to a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, 401k match, retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
