Position Title Crew Chief
Location Irvine, CA
Work Arrangement Hybrid, with 75% travel
Position Summary The primary role of the UAS Crew Chief is to maintain a safe operational environment and aircraft airworthiness using methods, techniques, and practices in accordance with approved standards and technical data for unmanned air vehicles. Crew Chiefs play a vital role on the Flight Operations team and will participate in the preflight, launch, and recovery of the aircraft. Crew Chiefs will conduct post flight inspections, maintenance, preventive maintenance, scheduled inspections, rebuilding and alterations to the aircraft and equipment, fueling and defueling of the aircraft, maintenance reports, and flight release authorization forms. This position will report to the Maintenance Manager. This position is contingent upon government contract award and the availability of funding.
UAS Crew Chiefs will be required to work in both CONUS and OCONUS locations.
Required Duties And Responsibilities
Responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable standards and technical data including but not limited to service bulletins, service instructions, engineering changes, and FAA airworthiness directives.
Disassembles systems components to support the correction of failures or implement changes.
Performs routine troubleshooting of engine, hydraulic, and electrical systems to isolate mechanical or electrical faults and repair faulty components.
Performs validation/verification testing of systems and components. Inspects component before installation or usage to verify cleanliness and serviceability of components.
Fabricates and modifies aerospace products according to specifications.
Performs tasks associated with the safe handling of aerospace vehicles (e.g. jacking, towing, system operations).
Works under general supervision.
Performs launch and recovery of unmanned aircraft
Works closely with the flight crew to prepare the aircraft for mission, training, and test flights
Piston aircraft engine experience
Communications skills and the ability to ask for help
Strict use of checklists
The ability to maintain an active US Secret Security Clearance
Basic runway safety knowledge
Ability to support four (4) complete on-site work days per week during CONUS test and flight operations
Documentation of maintenance/inspections performed
Preferred Skills/Qualifications
Working knowledge of Group 4-5 UAVs or comparable size manned aircraft.
Previous experience/knowledge of Rotax engines and/or Rotax training qualifications
Possess Excellent Mechanical Skills
Have aptitude for working with complex equipment and technology
Experience working as a productive team member
The ability to work with or without supervision
Maintains cleanliness and good situational awareness
Familiarity with DCMA 8210.1C and FOPS/GOPS
Safety orientated
Follows rules
Problem solver
Proficient computer skills with the use of Windows-based software
Required Skills/Qualifications
Prior experience working as a Crew Chief on Unmanned Platforms or as an airframe and powerplant (A&P) mechanic
Ability to maintain a FAA Class III Medical Certificate
Ability to pass a CRC medical review
Ability to satisfactorily complete an approved training program.
Ability to read, understand and follow approved documents and other instructions.
Must be willing to deploy to austere environments
Must have and maintain a current Driver’s License
Education High School Diploma or higher
Clearance Level Required Must have an Active DoD Secret security clearance or higher.
Travel Required Up to 100%, both CONUS and OCONUS
Working Conditions The diversity of work conditions may range from an environment where there is little or no physical discomfort, such as a general office environment, to warehouse and other facilities.
Personnel should expect to travel to various flight operations locations within the United States, in addition to overseas locations, both of which may experience complex living and working conditions. Personnel may be exposed to austere, deployment-type conditions and shared living spaces, including military-style accommodations, such as tents or manufactured b-huts with multiple personnel per room, along with military-style meals.
Physical Demands
Must have the ability to stoop, stand, climb, and lift a minimum of 35-50 lbs.
Regularly required to crouch and reach to install/move equipment by bending forward at the waist or by bending legs and spine.
Involves movement between departments, floors, and worksites to facilitate work.
Salary Salary depends on relevant work experience, education, training, essential skills, and/or other factors such as specialized or high-demand professions. In addition to the annual salary, the position will be eligible for an annual bonus. The pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of salary or annual bonus.
