Position Overview SMUD is seeking one SAP Technical Writer to support its S/4HANA implementation project. This contractor will work as an embedded team member, collaborating closely with stakeholders, subject matter experts, and the project team to develop detailed business process documentation and visually mapped process flows. The role functions under a leased employee model, requiring excellent communication, writing, and collaboration skills. Candidates must have reliable internet, work exclusively within the U.S., and adhere to the specified hybrid work schedule.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with project stakeholders and subject matter experts to document current business processes
Develop and maintain clear, comprehensive business process documentation and process flow diagrams to support S/4HANA system design and configuration
Use process mapping tools (e.g., Visio) to create visual representations of workflows, capturing key steps, decision points, roles, and inputs/outputs
Ensure process documentation is complete, consistent, and routed for review and approval
Support process inventory documentation as required
Maintain confidentiality, professional conduct, and compliance with SMUD policies
Flexibly track work hours and tasks in alignment with project needs
Mandatory Requirements
Minimum 2 years of technical writing experience, ideally in IT or business environment
Experience with at least one SAP project (implementation or support) focused on documenting business processes
Proficiency in business process documentation, mapping, and analysis
Ability to communicate highly technical information to technical and non-technical audiences, both verbally and in writing
Advanced skills in documentation tools (e.g., Visio, document management systems), and proficiency with screenshot/image editing tools
Strong organizational skills and proven ability to manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously
Desired Qualifications
Background working within SAP environments (ECC or S/4HANA)
Hands-on experience in SAP module process documentation
Experience supporting large-scale SAP projects or cross-functional teams
SAP certifications (e.g., SAP Certified Application Associate) are a plus
