Senior Excess Casualty Underwriting Manager

Our client is experiencing tremendous growth within their Excess Underwriting Division and is seeking to add a Senior Excess Casualty Underwriting Manager. This individual will play a critical role in driving both new business production and renewal retention while maintaining a customer‑first mindset. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical underwriting expertise, leadership capabilities, and the ability to build and manage key broker relationships.

This role is open to Excess Casualty leaders with either admitted or non‑admitted backgrounds, with a preference for those experienced in Excess & Surplus (E&S) and/or Middle Market business.

Responsibilities

Develop, manage, and grow a profitable book of Excess Casualty business. Lead the marketing and production of new and renewal business opportunities.

Underwrite complex risks by selecting, reviewing, modeling, and analyzing submissions in accordance with underwriting guidelines.

Serve as a technical expert across designated products or coverages and provide guidance to internal stakeholders. Mentor, train, and develop junior underwriting staff. Build and maintain strong relationships with wholesale brokers to drive production and long‑term growth.

Collaborate with local, regional, and home office leadership to ensure successful renewal retention.

Communicate underwriting decisions clearly and provide alternative solutions or cross‑sell opportunities when risks fall outside guidelines.

Partner with Regulatory Compliance and Actuarial teams as needed on underwriting matters.

Stay informed on market trends, competitive landscape, and product development opportunities.

Qualifications

10+ years of Excess Casualty underwriting experience.

Strong experience working with wholesale brokers and demonstrated success in relationship management.

Proven track record of building and maintaining broker partnerships and growing a book of business.

Solid understanding of middle market risks and current market conditions.

Strong analytical, technical underwriting, and decision‑making skills. Excellent communication, negotiation, and business acumen.

Ability to mentor and lead within a team environment. Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.

$225,000 – $300,000 (depending on experience) plus a competitive performance‑based bonus
