Director of Buildings Salary Range

$165,000 - $214,000 annually. Pay commensurate with experience.

LOCATION:

Options of Remote, Hybrid (local to the NYC Metro Area) or in office at our Syosset NY, Princeton, NJ or Newark, NJ locations.

Travel

This position requires travel (less than 50%).

Responsibilities

Implement design process and procedures so the department is organized and runs efficiently.

Approve the designs of new builds and older structures to ensure safety and longevity and ensure the designs are energy efficient or environmentally sound structures.

Direct the progress of project sites and ensure the site adheres to design specifications and safety standards.

Approve load and grade requirements, material stress factors and any other factors that determine design specifications.

Periodically visit project sites to ensure design specifications and standards are met and handle any concerns.

Review tests such as soil, material, strength of foundations, concrete, asphalt, or steel.

Analyze surveys of layout installations or established reference points, grades, or elevations to guide construction.

Ensure quantities and cost of materials, equipment, or labor are in line with project budget.

Provide technical expertise to direct and indirect personnel regarding design, construction, or structural repairs.

Partner with Marketing Director to prepare and present public reports on topics such as bid proposals, deeds, environmental impact statements, or property and right‑of‑way descriptions.

Participate in client meetings such as proposal, progress and completion meetings when necessary.

All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree (BS or BA) in Civil Engineering.

10 years related experience in A/E/C industry.

NY/NJ Professional Engineer (PE) is required.

Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques and the coordination of people and resources.

Expertise of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings and models.

Strong understanding of building codes, government regulations, OSHA regulations and safety procedures.

Proficiency with AutoCAD software and other structural design software.

Extremely organized and detailed oriented, with the ability to maintain accuracy while handling multiple requests in a growing company environment.

Highly analytical with the ability to calculate complex mathematical equations.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
