Your Role The
Employee Relations Consultant
will provide strategic guidance on Employee Relations and performance management practices, partnering with leaders to ensure fair, consistent, and effective application of corrective action processes. This role proactively identifies compliance gaps, mitigates risk, and balances business priorities with employee experience while building trusted relationships with leaders and serving as a credible resource to strengthen Employee Relations capabilities across the organization.
Your Work Performance & Corrective Action Leadership
Coach and guide leaders through the full performance cycle—coaching, documented improvement plans, and corrective action—ensuring consistency and alignment with company standards and employee relations best practices.
Conduct fact‑finding for moderate‑complexity performance issues, escalating higher‑risk matters and implementing corrective or disciplinary actions as needed.
Risk Identification & Compliance
Proactively identify systemic risk areas and compliance gaps in employee relations processes; collaborate with leaders to resolve those risks and enhance policy compliance in line with organizational and legal standards.
Stay current on applicable employment laws, regulations, and internal policies, advising on implications for corrective actions and performance management.
Consultative Partnership
Develop and sustain rapport with leaders, establishing credibility as a trusted Employee Relations advisor and building stakeholder relationships with HR Business Partners and legal/audit partners.
Provide balanced counsel considering business objectives, employee outcomes, risk exposure, and manager support—positioning employee relations interventions as enablers, not roadblocks.
Fair, Defensible Investigations
Lead investigations into performance‑related employee grievances and moderate employee relations issues using structured, defensible methodologies; document findings, interview participants, and facilitate disciplinary outcomes through recommendations to business leaders.
Data Analytics & Insights
Use employee relations metrics and people analytics (e.g., case volume, resolution times, issue types) to detect trends and highlight areas for process improvement.
Proactively share insights with clients and propose data‑driven solutions or training to address performance or compliance patterns.
Required Experience, Education, and Skills
5+ years of experience in HR consulting, specifically employee relations.
BA/BS degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Proficiency in management consulting, performance management, organizational development, employee relations, and workplace investigations.
Effective relationship‑builder who earns trust and serves as a credible partner to leaders; skilled in influencing, coaching, facilitation, presentation, communication, process development, problem solving and negotiation.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, reporting, and analytical skills.
Ability to analyze and interpret employee relations data to drive proactive solutions and strategic improvements.
Strong investigative capabilities—structured approach, neutral interviewing, precise documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
This is a remote role; the ideal candidate would reside on the West Coast.
Attainment of AWI Certificate, SPHR/SHRM‑SCP, Mediation/ADR certification.
Experience in a mid‑size corporate environment highly desired.
Active engagement in shaping company culture (e.g., participating in employee resource groups, volunteering).
Willingness to use cameras during onboarding and build relationships.
Travel as needed for role, including divisional/team meetings and other in‑person meetings.
