Overview Our client, a highly respected and rapidly growing commercial general contractor, is seeking a

Director of Risk

to lead and evolve their enterprise-wide risk management and insurance programs. This role will serve as a strategic partner to executive leadership and operations, driving risk identification, mitigation, and transfer strategies across a diverse portfolio of large-scale construction projects.

This is a highly visible position offering significant influence over corporate risk strategy, insurance programs, claims management, and subcontractor qualification—ideal for a seasoned risk professional with deep construction industry experience.

Key Responsibilities

Direct the company’s comprehensive corporate risk management and insurance programs, including risk identification, transfer, and retention strategies.

Manage day-to-day coordination between internal project teams, brokers, insurers, legal, safety, HR, and estimating.

Lead contract reviews related to insurance and bonding in partnership with legal counsel.

Evaluate insurable risks and mitigation opportunities while aligning coverage with operational exposures.

Review and secure appropriate insurance coverage and pricing for bids and new projects.

Serve as liaison with client/owner insurance representatives for project-specific policies.

Oversee performance and payment bond placement with brokers and surety partners.

Manage the master Builders Risk program, including reporting and premium allocations.

Review and analyze OCIP/CCIP programs and coordinate among all stakeholders.

Support and administer the Subcontractor Default Insurance (SDI) program and subcontractor prequalification feedback.

Lead internal claims management across Workers’ Comp, GL, Auto, and Builders Risk, coordinating TPAs, insurers, and defense counsel.

Analyze loss trends and collaborate with Safety on corrective action plans.

Drive annual insurance renewals, broker management, submission approvals, and premium negotiations.

Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting related to insurance programs.

Maintain awareness of construction insurance market trends, coverage developments, and pricing dynamics.

Partner with internal learning teams to deliver education on risk and insurance topics.

Assist with fleet driver education initiatives and internal risk communication strategies.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.

10+ years of experience in Risk Management, Insurance, or Surety Brokerage (construction industry required).

Construction finance/accounting experience strongly preferred.

Proven ability to manage complex insurance programs and stakeholder relationships.

Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Excellent time management with the ability to operate in a fast-paced environment.
