Development Director

Position Title: Development Director Status: Full-Time, Exempt Reports To: Chief Executive Officer Salary Range: $90,000 - $110,000, depending on education, certifications and relevant experience Location: Portland, OR (Hybrid telecommuting and in-office Tuesday through Thursday), with the potential need to occasionally come into the office on other days/times or attend offsite meetings/events for meetings with potential donors, etc. Application Deadline: Monday, April 6th, 2026 About the Organization: Lines for Life is a regional non-profit that is dedicated to preventing substance abuse and suicide. We offer help and hope to individuals and communities and promote mental health for all. Our work addresses a spectrum of needs that include intervention, prevention, and advocacy. We educate, train, and advocate to prevent issues of substance abuse, mental illness, and thoughts of suicide from reaching crisis levels. But when a crisis arises or support is needed, we are available 24/7/365 to intervene with personalized help. Development Director Position Summary

The Development Director serves on the Lines for Life leadership team and oversees the creation of a comprehensive development strategy and directs all phases of resource development including: major gifts, business partnerships and corporate giving, public and private grants, annual and planned giving, management of development budget, oversight of donor database, and fundraising events. Position reports to the CEO, works closely with the Board of Director' development committee and collaborates with Lines for Life directors. Development Director Responsibilities

Development Strategy and Fundraising Work with the President / CEO to set fund development goals within the first 6 months of being hired and continue to set goals on an annual basis. Design short and long-term fundraising strategies to increase charitable giving and diversify philanthropic revenue. Lead comprehensive fundraising initiatives including: Major fits Individual donor programs Corporate partnership and sponsorship Foundation and government grant funding Annual giving and direct mail campaigns Planned giving Select fundraising events Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with current and prospective donors. Oversee systems and processes for donor cultivation, gift acknowledgment, and stewardship. Donor Engagement and Stewardship Strengthen donor engagement through consistent communication, stewardship strategies, and relationship building. Manage donor and prospecting information and tracking systems, including a comprehensive prospect and donor database. Use development analytics to understand the current and potential donors and evaluate the effectiveness of development strategies and communications. Leadership and Organizational Collaboration Implement the development plan through comprehensive strategies, including, but not limited to, major donor solicitation, small donor development, direct mail, special events, grant research and solicitation (charitable foundations/trusts, corporations, and government), and planned giving. Supervise Development staff. Supervisory responsibilities include: meeting regularly for 1-on-1 meetings to provide guidance, coaching, performance feedback, and creative problem-solving; collaboratively setting goals and monitoring progress; reviewing timesheets for accuracy; following the policies and procedures outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement and Employee Handbook; Conduct 90-day and annual performance reviews in a timely manner; and collaborating with HR on any personnel concerns that arise. Work with the Communications team and program staff to develop compelling fundraising materials and messaging. Collaborate with the Finance Department to develop, monitor, and maintain the department budget. Board and Community Engagement Collaborate with the CEO on Board recruitment using the asset mapping of the current Board of Directors to identify needs and opportunities. Provide guidance and training to Board members and staff on effective fundraising and donor stewardship Represent Lines for Life with donors, community leaders, partner organizations, and other external stakeholders. Additional Responsibilities Increase membership for the Construction Suicide Prevention Partnership program. Represent Lines for Life with external constituents, including media, partner organizations, donors, and community leaders. Serve as a member of Lines for Life's Leadership Team and supervise the Development team. Support the growth of philanthropic participation in key initiatives such as the Construction Suicide Prevention Partnership program. Perform other duties as assigned. Development Director Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent training and experience in lieu of a degree, and a minimum of 5 years' experience coordinating and/or directing fund development efforts. 10 years of progressive nonprofit fundraising and leadership experience preferred. Demonstrated success in securing philanthropic support, including major gifts, foundation grants, corporate contributions, and individual donor engagement. Knowledge and experience with all components of a comprehensive development program; record of success in prospecting and achieving donations, major gifts fund development, and soliciting private and government grants, as well as experience with direct mail appeals, planned giving, and special events. Experience supervising staff and building effective teams. Integrity and transparency. Strong strategic thinking, planning, and organizational skills Exceptional networking, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Excellent communication skills: oral, written, and graphic. Demonstrated strategic planning, organization, time management, and decision-making skills, ability to work effectively within tight time constraints.
