Job Description Summary:

Under the supervision of the Senior Director – East, the Director serves as the primary leader responsible for overseeing daily operations at an interim housing site. This role includes managing a diverse team, ensuring high-quality service delivery, and cultivating a supportive, client-centered environment. The Director acts as the fiscal steward of the site, overseeing budgets, contracts, and purchasing in collaboration with the finance department. They serve as the main liaison with external stakeholders including funders, government agencies, and law enforcement while ensuring all contractual obligations are met and reported accurately. The Director champions agency initiatives, aligns site operations with strategic goals, and provides crisis intervention and trauma-informed leadership when needed. This position requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and the ability to foster collaboration across departments to support client outcomes and housing stability.

Job Description Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Serve as the primary site leader, responsible for the site and its daily operations.

Liaise with outside stakeholders such as local government, funders, housing authorities, police, etc. and represent the site and agency.

Act as the fiscal guardian for the site, managing the budget, contracts, and purchasing, and signing off on all project spending, working collaboratively with the finance department.

Be accountable to all contractual deliverables, ensuring they are met, if not exceeded, and continually communicating with funders and the grants and contracts department to ensure they are negotiated, maintained, and appropriately and accurately reported.

Ensure the implementation of all agency initiatives and that the project’s work aligns with wider agency and department strategic goals.

Report on the activities of the project to the Executive Leadership Team and represent the project in all inter-agency initiatives.

Manage a team of x reports and x indirect reports, who vary widely in job responsibility, job requirements, life experience, and expertise.

Provide guidance, leadership, and support to all team members including management, case managers, and support specialists.

Cultivate a healthy, supportive team environment that allows all team members to thrive.

Demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility for the site and lead by example.

Develop effective, trusting relationships with clients using a client-centered approach that includes motivational interviewing and coach staff to do the same.

Champion harm reduction and trauma-informed care.

Provide crisis intervention for clients when necessary, and follow up on client grievance submissions.

Ensure that the physical site is well-maintained and safe.

Provide oversight of the daily operations of shelter and develop and implement policies, procedures, and systems necessary to maintain high-quality services and to ensure adequate outcomes.

Provide on-call coverage for emergencies, when needed.

Facilitate weekly individual and team meetings.

Conduct and sign off on performance evaluations for assigned staff.

Communicate effectively, and in a timely manner, with management, peers, and clients.

Collaborate with other programs to provide greater support and assistance to clients.

Maintain client confidentiality at all times, while following agency, state, and HIPAA laws.

Other duties as assigned.

Job Description Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent experience required

Minimum two (2) years of supervisory experience required

Minimum (1) year of case management experience required

Interim housing experience required

Demonstrated knowledge of issues faced by diverse population served

Skilled in non-violent crisis intervention

Ability to be on-call

Skilled in data collection and electronic databases; experience with HMIS/CHAMP strongly preferred

Ability to self-motivate and be flexible in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision

Critical thinking skills necessary

Strong interpersonal and team building skills to promote collaboration

Detail-oriented with excellent time management, organizational, written, verbal, interpersonal, presentation, teambuilding and computer skills

Ability to effectively lead a diverse team of case managers, attendants, and managers

Job Description Preferred Qualifications:

Masters Degree preferred

Minimum of two (2) year experience in case management strongly preferred

Strategic Leadership – Demonstrates the ability to align site operations with broader organizational goals and lead with vision and purpose.

Strong Communication Skills – Effectively communicates with internal teams, external stakeholders, and leadership, fostering transparency and collaboration.

Fiscal and Contractual Acumen – Skilled in managing budgets, contracts, and reporting requirements with accuracy and accountability.

Client-Centered Approach – Champions trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and motivational interviewing to support client engagement and housing outcomes.

Team Development – Builds and nurtures a diverse team, providing mentorship, guidance, and fostering a healthy work environment.

Crisis Management – Capable of handling emergencies and client crises with professionalism, empathy, and sound judgment.

Primarily office-based, with on-site presence required at the program location on Skid Row.

May be exposed to outdoor elements such as heat, cold, dust, noise, and odors.

May need to bend, stoop, twist, and sit throughout the day.

Regular exposure to individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health conditions, and substance use disorders.

Potential exposure to stressful or crisis situations, including verbal or behavioral disruptions.

Requires maintaining professionalism, composure, and trauma-informed engagement in a dynamic and sometimes unpredictable environment.
