Resident Life Director – Maple Hall (NJIT Student Housing, Newark, NJ) Starting Salary:

$60,000

An entry-level resident transfers into Maple Hall excited but unsure about the experience. The role is about creating connection, structure, and belonging, shaping how residents thrive.

What This Role Really Is This position goes beyond event planning or supervision: it involves building the resident experience from the inside out through programming, leadership, and daily interactions.

It sits at the intersection of:

Student engagement

Leadership development

Operations

Community building

You’ll lead the Resident Life program and develop a team of Resident Assistants who directly impact community engagement daily.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement resident life programming that supports engagement and community.

Train, schedule, and supervise Resident Assistants.

Lead regular staff meetings, trainings, and ongoing development.

Support conflict resolution and ensure consistent, fair processes.

Oversee outreach to build strong relationships with residents.

Coordinate with the General Manager and Maintenance teams.

Participate in crisis response and on‑call rotation through RISE and The University.

Promote a safe, inclusive, and well‑managed community environment.

Assist with marketing and overall community goals.

Required Qualifications

Understand how to build community, not just plan events.

Lead with consistency, professionalism, and accountability.

Communicate clearly with both residents and staff.

Comfortable handling conflict, challenges, and high‑pressure situations.

Develop and coach student staff into strong representatives of the community.

Think proactively about engagement, not just reactive programming.

Maintain a calm, solutions‑focused approach in day‑to‑day operations.
