Resident Life Director
Risere, Newark, NJ, United States
Resident Life Director – Maple Hall (NJIT Student Housing, Newark, NJ)
Starting Salary: $60,000
A new resident moves into Maple Hall — excited, but unsure what their experience will actually feel like.
They don’t just need a place to live.
They’re looking for connection. Structure. A sense of belonging.
What happens next — the programs, the interactions, the support systems — shapes whether they thrive or just pass through.
That experience doesn’t happen by accident.
What This Role Really Is We're hiring a
Resident Life Director
to lead that effort.
This isn’t just planning events or supervising staff.
This role is responsible for
building the resident experience from the inside out
— through programming, leadership, and daily interactions.
It sits at the intersection of:
Operations
Community building
You’ll lead the Resident Life program while developing a team of Resident Assistants who directly impact how residents experience the community every day.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
Developing and implementing resident life programming that supports engagement and community
Training, scheduling, and supervising Resident Assistants
Leading regular staff meetings, trainings, and ongoing development
Supporting conflict resolution and ensuring consistent, fair processes
Overseeing outreach efforts to build strong relationships with residents
Coordinating with the General Manager and Maintenance teams
Supporting crisis response and being part of an on-call rotation through RISE and The University
Promoting a safe, inclusive, and well-managed community environment
Assisting with marketing and overall community goals
What We’re Looking For
Understands how to build community — not just plan events
Leads with consistency, professionalism, and accountability
Communicates clearly with both residents and staff
Is comfortable handling conflict, challenges, and high-pressure situations
Can develop and coach student staff into strong representatives of the community
Thinks proactively about engagement, not just reactive programming
Maintains a calm, solutions-focused approach in day-to-day operations
What This Role Is NOT
Not just an event planning position
Not a passive, administrative role
Not disconnected from day-to-day resident experience
Anyone can schedule a program.
We’re looking for someone who can create an environment where residents feel supported, connected, and part of something — while leading a team that delivers that experience consistently.
Why This Role Matters
How residents experience daily life in the community
How student staff grow and perform in their roles
The overall culture, safety, and engagement of the property
It’s an opportunity to take ownership of a community experience — not just support it.
Interested? If you enjoy building community…
If you take pride in developing people and creating structure…
If you want to play a meaningful role in how residents live and connect…
