
Part-Time Recreation Specialist - Fit For Fun

The purpose of this position is to assist with recreation program delivery on a part‑time basis. This is accomplished by monitoring facility operations, recommending and implementing age‑appropriate recreation programs and activities, and performing administrative duties. Other duties include pick up trash in and around facility, assisting with department special events, assisting in ordering supplies, delivering programs, and coordinating with outside agencies.
JOB DUTIES
Monitors facility operation by opening and closing facilities, assisting with maintenance of grounds and facility, reporting needed repairs, coordinating facility use or rental, monitoring participant behavior, ensuring facility rules are followed, addressing safety issues and responding to incidents following guidelines and procedures, and managing gift shop and sales.
Develops and implements recreation programs and activities by creating developmentally appropriate activities, submitting program proposals, set‑up and breakdown of programs, leading activities, recruiting, coordinating and supervising volunteers, coordinating athletic events, developing personal training programs, teaching classes, marketing events, evaluating events, developing registration forms, planning excursions and day trips, managing risks, and assisting with recreation facilities and programs as needed.
Performs administrative duties including creating registration forms, flyers, rules and regulations, scheduling activities, answering phones, greeting patrons, running cash register, maintaining attendance log, updating member files, making copies, distributing marketing materials, assisting with special events, giving tours, maintaining communication with agencies and participants, assisting with office duties and program scheduling, and organizing and attending meetings as required.
FACILITY/PROGRAM AREA SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinating birthday party rentals
Creating and organizing weekly art projects for early childhood development
Performing cash drawer transactions accurately
Performing light housekeeping and cleaning between play sessions
Ability to work weekends, as the Center frequently books play sessions and rentals for Saturdays
Note:
Driving and criminal history check required for the selected candidate. The selected candidate will also be required to complete a post‑offer drug screen.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma/GED or equivalent and six (6) months of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Class C Driver’s License
CPR/First Aid and AED certification, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
Ability to work nights, weekends, and some holidays.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS Exerting up to 20 lbs. occasionally, 10 lbs. frequently, or negligible amounts constantly, or may require walking or standing to a significant degree.
WORKING CONDITIONS Positions generally require work indoors in a recreation or neighborhood center and/or outdoors in a park, recreation area, or golf course.
