Position: Vice President for Marketing and Communications
Job details: Connecticut College invites nominations and applications for the position of Vice President for Marketing and Communications (VPMC). The role leads marketing and communications, brand strategy, digital outreach, media relations, creative services, web presence, and executive communications. Reports to the President and serves on the senior leadership team.
Responsibilities
Provide strategic and operational leadership to align marketing and communications with the College’s mission, strategic goals, and fiscal sustainability.
Oversee brand strategy, digital outreach, media relations, creative services, institutional messaging, and audience engagement.
Staff the Board of Trustees’ Marketing and Communications Committee; counsel on messaging, reputation, and crisis communications; serve as primary spokesperson in emergencies.
Draft and advise on presidential speeches and high-stakes communications; participate in major College events.
Lead a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy across digital, print, web, and media; drive digital-first strategies and large-scale website projects.
Strengthen media relationships, elevate thought leadership, ensure brand consistency across campus touchpoints.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
At least 10 years of experience in marketing and communications.
Preferred Qualifications
Proven Marketing Leadership: 10+ years in marketing and communications; leadership in higher education; strategic planning and execution.
Strategic and Creative Expertise: Strong oral/written communication; ability to evaluate and select creative work; data-informed planning and reporting.
Digital and Technology-Driven Vision: Expertise in digital marketing, paid/organic social, search, display; experience with website redesigns; analytics and KPIs; familiarity with AI-driven tools.
Collaborative and Inclusive Leadership: Ability to lead with empathy, mentor talent, build high-performing teams, partner with senior leadership.
