ABOUT THE ROLE Our client is seeking an experienced Electrical Designer II (Contract) to support DC system wiring and physical design initiatives in a hybrid work environment based in downtown Birmingham. This role will contribute to the design, specification, inspection, and testing of electrical systems across multiple plant sites. The ideal candidate is highly proficient in CAD tools, capable of working independently, and experienced in industrial electrical system design. You will play a key role in developing detailed electrical designs, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and supporting field implementation and testing. The position requires occasional travel to plant sites and adherence to safety protocols during site visits.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Collaborate with project teams to understand and define electrical design requirements and objectives
Develop detailed electrical designs, including system layouts, single-line diagrams, elementary diagrams, and wiring diagrams
Perform DC system design for battery systems, chargers, inverters, UPS systems, and DC fuse panels
Utilize CAD software (AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, CAD Overlay) to create and modify electrical drawings
Specify electrical components, materials, and equipment for projects
Ensure all designs comply with industry standards and codes (NEC, IEEE)
Conduct design reviews, quality checks, and code compliance evaluations
Support field inspections, acceptance testing, and system checkout activities
Maintain organized documentation including drawings, specifications, and bills of materials (BOMs)
Prepare technical reports and project deliverables for stakeholders
Partner with engineers, architects, plant staff, and vendors to integrate electrical systems
Support field implementation and provide effective collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders
WHAT YOU BRING
5–7 years of experience as an Electrical Designer or similar role
Associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Design, or related field (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
7+ years of experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, and CAD Overlay
Proven ability to produce high-quality electrical design drawings with minimal oversight
Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles and design practices
Familiarity with industry codes and standards (NEC, IEEE)Ability to work both independently and within a team environment
Willingness and ability to travel to plant sites for meetings and field inspections
Experience with PLC programming and control systems (preferred)
Experience designing electrical systems for industrial or plant environments (preferred)
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams (preferred)
