Director of Materials Management

Overview The Director of Materials Management oversees the procurement, storage, and distribution of materials within the organization. This leadership role focuses on optimizing inventory levels, ensuring cost-effectiveness, and maintaining high-quality standards. The Director will develop and implement strategic plans to enhance supply chain efficiency, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and establish strong relationships with suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and execute materials management strategies aligned with organizational goals.

Oversee procurement processes to ensure timely and cost-effective sourcing of materials.

Manage inventory levels to optimize storage and reduce waste.

Lead a team of materials management professionals, providing mentorship and support.

Collaborate with departments such as production, finance, and quality assurance to streamline operations.

Monitor market trends and negotiate contracts with suppliers to secure the best terms.

Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards.

Implement and enhance inventory management systems and technologies.

Prepare and manage departmental budgets and forecasts.

Lead and direct the work of other employees within the team. This can include hiring, performance management, and termination.

Contribute to strategic planning, direction and goal setting for the department or function in collaboration with senior management.

Establish departmental policies, practices and procedures that have a significant impact on the organization.

Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required:

Education: Bachelor's

Education: Typically, a bachelor’s degree in supply chain management or another relevant field.

Minimum of 10 years of experience.

Prior management experience in a similar role.

Ability to drive and implement strategic direction that aligns with the company’s objectives.

Proficient in making informed decisions.

Ability to develop and execute comprehensive plans.

Highly detail-oriented, ensuring accuracy in all aspects of materials management.

Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards in a fast-paced environment.

Skilled in managing multiple priorities simultaneously.

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer or attending meetings.

Ability to stand and walk throughout office and manufacturing environments as needed.

Occasional travel between facilities or to supplier locations may be required.

Ability to navigate warehouse and production floor environments, including exposure to noise, moving equipment, and varying temperatures.

Ability to lift and carry light materials or equipment (up to 25 pounds) on an occasional basis.

Visual acuity to review reports, data, and inventory systems.

Manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment and computer systems.
