
IT Technical Writer

We are seeking an experienced
IT Technical Writer
to research, write, edit, and maintain documentation supporting IT processes, systems, and operations. This role is responsible for producing high-quality materials including processes, plans, procedures, work instructions, knowledge articles, reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instructional content, catalogs, technical publications, and software and hardware documentation.
The Technical Writer will gather and validate technical information through independent research, direct observation, collaboration with technical staff, and review of existing documentation. This role works closely with users, subject matter experts, analysts, programmers, and other stakeholders to understand technologies, standards, methods, and business requirements. Responsibilities include revising and standardizing documentation, recommending improvements to scope, format, and content, and ensuring all deliverables comply with established documentation standards. The Technical Writer will also perform final quality assurance reviews on all materials and may edit or standardize content created by other writers.

Desired Skills
Ability to facilitate discussions related to IT Service Management, project lifecycles, and business processes with technical teams and customers
Must have experience with 508 Compliance – government background
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 tools, including creating and editing Visio workflow diagrams
Strong ability to identify documentation gaps, process bottlenecks, and opportunities for improvement
Familiarity with ITIL Foundations (v3 or v4) and project lifecycle methodologies (Waterfall and/or Agile) preferred
1–2 years of experience creating or editing IT project lifecycle documentation and/or IT Service Management documentation supporting engineering, operations, support, or program management
Education and Experience Requirements
Minimum of
6 years of experience
writing and editing professional documentation
Bachelor’s Degree
With a
Master’s degree , one year of specialized experience may substitute
With
9+ years of specialized experience , no degree is required
At least
2 years of experience
supporting IT operations or IT-related documentation
Knowledge and Skills
Highly motivated, self-directed, and accountable
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships
Proven ability to analyze organizational processes and document IT Service Management and technical operations procedures
Detail-oriented with strong quality assurance and review capabilities
Ability to understand technical discussions, ask insightful questions, identify gaps or inefficiencies, and document processes in a logical and clear manner
Experience documenting and/or quality-checking operational procedures, knowledge articles, and client deliverables while meeting deadlines

U.S. citizen or Green Card holder
Must have
resided in the U.S. for at least 3 years
Must be able to
obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
