Distinguishing Features Of The Class This position is responsible for planning, organizing and supervising the maintenance and repair of the buildings, grounds, parks, equipment and recreational facilities within the Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation. The work includes developing and implementing preventive maintenance programs for equipment, tools and vehicles. While the ability to exercise independent judgment and make independent decisions is a requirement, general direction is received from the Commissioner of Parks, Recreation and Conservation. Direct supervision is exercised over assigned personnel. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES (Illustrative only)
Plans, organizes and supervises the maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds and equipment for all parks, recreational facilities and programs;
Develops, implements and supervises preventive maintenance programs for equipment, tools and vehicles;
Makes recommendations in the acquisition, design and construction of recreational facilities;
Assesses the equipment and supply needs of the department and submits requisitions;
Supervises the distribution of materials, supplies and equipment and maintains an inventory;
Directs and supervises maintenance personnel and develops routine work schedules;
Confers with contractors in resolving complex maintenance problems and inspects their work and materials for conformance to contract specifications;
Prepares, maintains and submits records and reports;
Assists in the preparation of the departmental budget and directs and supervises the expenditure of funds in accordance with appropriations.
