The Department of Environmental Protection is seeking a dedicated professional to serve as an Environmental Protection Compliance Specialist. In this role, you will help ensure adherence to the rules, regulations, and policies that safeguard public health and Pennsylvania’s natural resources. You will apply strong analytical skills to interpret environmental requirements and evaluate how they apply in real‑world situations. Description of Work As an Environmental Protection Compliance Specialist, you will carry out compliance assistance activities within the oil and gas program, monitor and assess regulatory adherence, and support the development of formal enforcement actions. Your work will include evaluating compliance and enforcement efforts within an assigned area, ensuring accurate data entry, and preparing detailed reports with recommendations based on your findings. You will also play a key role in providing training and technical guidance to field staff, the regulated community, and the public on applicable rules, regulations, policies, and enforcement strategies.

Key Responsibilities

Performing compliance assistance activities related to oil and gas programs

Tracking, assessing, and documenting compliance with environmental regulations

Reviewing and preparing formal enforcement actions when violations occur

Conducting evaluations of compliance and enforcement programs within assigned areas

Entering accurate and complete information into the department’s data systems

Preparing detailed reports with findings, conclusions, and recommended actions

Developing and delivering training and technical assistance to field personnel, regulated entities, and the public

Interpreting and explaining rules, regulations, policies, and enforcement procedures

Required Experience, Training & Eligibility Qualifications Minimum Experience and Training Requirements

One year of professional experience as a Sanitarian, Air Quality Specialist, Solid Waste Specialist, or Water Quality Specialist (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or

Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training which affords the applicant the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Special Requirements

This position requires possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Other Requirements

You must meet the PA residency requirement.

You must be able to perform essential job functions.
