
Human Resources Specialist

Position Summary
The Human Resources (HR) Specialist will play a key role in supporting day‑to‑day human resources operations, including recruitment & staffing, employee relations, standardization/compliance, and HR administration. The HR Specialist will partner with leadership and employees to deliver effective and efficient HR solutions aligned with organizational goals. This position will be based in our Canton, Michigan office and will report directly to the Vice President of HR.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supports full‑cycle recruitment including job postings, screening, interviewing, and onboarding
Serves as a key support for employee relations matters, providing guidance on policies and procedures
Administers HR programs such as benefits, leave of absence, and performance management
Maintains accurate employee records and ensures HRIS data integrity
Ensures compliance with federal, state/provincial, and local employment laws and regulations
Assists with payroll coordination, processing and reporting
Supports training and development initiatives
Participates in HR projects and process improvements
Generates HR metrics and reports to support business decisions
Perform other duties as assigned or required to meet the evolving needs of the team and business
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources is required
2–5 years of HR experience in specialist capacity with desire to develop into generalist/business partner
HR certification (e.g., CHRP, PHR, SHRM-CP) is a plus
Strong working knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices
Ability to use good judgment and discretion with highly confidential business and employee information
Strong business acumen, analytical and problem‑solving skills with high degree of attention to detail
Proven ability to gather and analyze data and present findings with actionable recommendations
Possesses strong written & verbal communications with all levels of management, organizational and interpersonal skills
Excellent time management, prioritization abilities with streamlining/simplification mindset, and strong project management skills
Ability to manage multiple deadlines in fast‑paced environment
Commitment to continuous improvement
Proven track record of effectively partnering with cross‑functional team members at all levels, translating data into useful information about the business, and influencing strategic initiatives to drive HR improvements
Strong ability to generate respect and trust from staff and external stakeholders along with the ability to work collaboratively with staff/colleagues to create a results‑driven, team‑oriented environment
Proficiency with HRIS systems (i.e. Paylocity, Employee Navigator, etc.) and Microsoft Office Suite
Strong desire to learn, develop, and expand professional skills for future leadership opportunities within Human Resources function
