About the Opportunity I’m currently partnering with a leading general contractor and mission‑critical specialist to appoint a Data Center Preconstruction Director to support their rapidly growing portfolio across Virginia. This is a key leadership hire, offering the opportunity to shape strategy, build teams, and drive major hyperscale and enterprise data center projects from concept through to delivery.
The Role As Preconstruction Director, you will take ownership of all front‑end project activities, working closely with clients, design teams, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful planning, pricing, and execution of complex data center builds.
Key Responsibilities
Lead all preconstruction functions including estimating, cost planning, and bid strategy
Manage and mentor a high‑performing team of estimators and preconstruction professionals
Partner with clients and consultants during early design phases to define scope and budgets
Drive value engineering and constructability reviews across large‑scale projects
Oversee subcontractor engagement, pricing strategies, and procurement planning
Support business development efforts, proposals, and client presentations
Ensure seamless transition from preconstruction into project delivery teams
Provide market insight on pricing trends, labor, and supply chain risks
What We’re Looking For
10–15+ years’ experience in construction, with a strong focus on data centers or mission‑critical projects
Proven leadership experience within preconstruction or estimating
Strong knowledge of MEP systems and critical infrastructure
Excellent client‑facing, commercial, and communication skills
