A community-focused bank with a strong commitment to relationship banking is seeking a Commercial Portfolio Manager to support its commercial banking division. The Commercial Portfolio Manager is a dual-function role combining relationship management with portfolio oversight and credit analysis. This position is responsible for managing an assigned portfolio of commercial credits while maintaining strong asset quality, ensuring compliance, and delivering a high level of client service. This is not a production role; rather, the portfolio is assigned, and the focus is on credit stewardship, structure, and long-term relationship management.

This opportunity is ideal for a credit-minded banking professional who takes ownership of the full credit lifecycle and is comfortable working closely with senior leadership and loan committee.

Key Responsibilities Client Relationship Management

Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned clients, managing the relationship throughout the life of each credit

Build and maintain strong relationships with business owners and real estate clients

Respond to client needs including covenant requests, modifications, and general credit-related inquiries

Act as a trusted advisor to clients navigating lending processes; no outbound business development required

Credit Analysis & Loan Structuring

Perform in-depth credit analysis, including financial statement spreading, cash flow modeling, and risk assessment across CRE, C&I, and SBA loans

Collaborate with clients and senior leadership to structure and negotiate loan terms aligned with credit policy

Prepare detailed credit approval memoranda for loan committee presentation, clearly identifying risks and mitigants

Support the loan closing process in coordination with internal teams and third parties to ensure accuracy and compliance

Actively manage an assigned commercial loan portfolio ($40MM–$80MM), monitoring performance, covenant compliance, and collateral values

Conduct annual reviews, borrowing base analyses, and ongoing credit file updates

Track maturities, past dues, and tickler items to ensure the portfolio remains current and well-managed

Identify early signs of credit deterioration and recommend risk rating changes or action plans

Coordinate with special assets or workout teams when necessary

Prepare reports and presentations on portfolio performance, risk exposure, and trends for senior management

Stay informed on market conditions and industry trends impacting the portfolio

Maintain accurate, complete, and exam-ready loan files and financial documentation

Compliance & Risk Management

Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements and internal lending policies

Maintain knowledge of applicable banking regulations and credit standards

Complete required compliance training and support audit and exam processes

Partner with lending assistants, loan operations, and treasury teams to support portfolio management

Work closely with senior leadership and loan committee on credit decisions and structuring

Manage loan pipeline activity and assist with broader portfolio initiatives

Perform additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial lending, credit analysis, or portfolio management

Demonstrated experience managing and underwriting commercial loan relationships

Strong background in at least two of the following: Commercial Real Estate (CRE), C&I, and SBA lending

Proven ability to manage a commercial loan portfolio and maintain strong asset quality

Excellent financial analysis, underwriting, and loan structuring skills

Strong communication skills with the ability to present to senior leadership and loan committee

Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple credits and deadlines simultaneously

Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with banking systems and loan origination platforms preferred

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field required

Advanced degree, formal credit training, or professional certifications preferred
