Energy Simulation Expert (m/f/x)
Optimuse GmbH, New Bremen, OH, United States
You own the engineering outcome. For each client building, you take the digital twin, set up and run dynamic thermal simulations (EnergyPlus), and deliver results that drive real investment decisions. You work independently on your projects - but never alone: a team of experienced engineers, data specialists, and product experts has your back when you need it.
Your mission Making buildings future-proof (Energy Design):
You take a client's building - as-is - and figure out what it can become. You model the building envelope, HVAC systems, and energy supply in EnergyPlus, then develop and compare decarbonization pathways and retrofit strategies. Your job is to find the combination of measures that delivers the best ecological and economic outcome (CapEx/OpEx) - not in theory, but for this specific building, this specific client, this specific budget.
Maximizing building value (Value Engineering):
Before costly planning decisions are locked in, you identify where money is being wasted. You simulate the current design state at high accuracy, benchmark alternatives, and show the client exactly where CapEx can be reduced without sacrificing - or even while improving - operational quality and energy performance.
Ensuring quality of life (Thermal Comfort):
An efficient building must also be a livable one. You run detailed thermal comfort simulations to prevent overheating, verify indoor climate quality across seasons, and produce certification‑ready documentation (e.g. DGNB/ÖGNI SOC 1.1) - so people can thrive in the buildings of the future.
Your profile We're looking for engineers who combine building physics expertise with modern HVAC engineering and simulation workflows.
Education:
A degree in building physics, mechanical/HVAC engineering, energy engineering, or a related field.
Simulation expertise:
You have hands‑on experience with EnergyPlus (or equivalent dynamic simulation tools like IDA ICE or TRNSYS). Building energy modeling, HVAC system sizing, and thermal performance analysis are part of your daily toolkit — not just something you've read about.
HVAC know‑how:
You understand heating, cooling, ventilation, and domestic hot water systems at a technical level. You can model real HVAC configurations and evaluate their performance against design targets.
Consulting experience:
3+ years in energy consulting, building services planning, or a related advisory role. You're comfortable with simulation, modeling, and compliance verification.
Communication skills:
You don't hide behind numbers. You can present complex technical findings in a way that resonates with decision‑makers who lack an engineering background.
Organizational strength:
You manage your projects in a structured, reliable way and are comfortable with common PM tools.
Nice to have:
Experience with CRREM analyses, green building certification systems (DGNB/ÖGNI), or data‑driven BIM workflows.
Why us?
Real impact:
Your analyses drive investment decisions on real assets and feed directly into our platform evolution.
Full solution chain:
You work with a complete product suite — from digital twin creation through to performance monitoring — not isolated consulting projects.
International & personal:
~25 people from 10 nations. Short paths, real diversity.
Growth & learning:
Access to cutting‑edge digital twin and simulation methods, with direct support from your team lead.
Flexibility & benefits:
Hybrid work (remote possible) or our modern office in Vienna's 2nd district. Daily meal allowance (€5/day) and regular team events.
Compensation:
We pay significantly above the collective agreement. (Legal note: The KV minimum is €3,175 gross/month — that's just the formal floor for us.)
