provides friendly and courteous over-the-counter direct sales to customers, takes orders in-person and by phone, and supports the overall performance of the

store operations. This is driven by an energetic focus and promotion of sales programs as well as customer and team-oriented activities. Incentives may be available for their sales activities, which can cover aftermarket automotive replacement parts, and may include the sale of heavy‑duty parts, auto and industrial paint, and body shop supplies and equipment. The role will serve as mentor and provide direction to new or junior counter salespersons and/or delivery drivers. The employee will utilize reasoning abilities to assist with complex requests from customers, may complete end‑of‑day or end‑of‑month reporting as assigned, and may act as a Leader in Training while serving in a temporary supervisory capacity as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

include the following, other duties may be assigned.

Demonstrate courteous, respectful, and kind conduct toward every employee and customer.

Demonstrate a thorough understanding of RPI store systems and processes.

Display an advanced understanding of auto parts and act as a go‑to source of information for customers and coworkers alike.

Train other employees on parts knowledge and store processes.

Assist manager in completing End‑of‑Day processing.

Assist manager in completing end‑of‑month processing.

Cooperate and coordinate well with coworkers as a team member.

Perform job duties in compliance with legal, regulatory, and company safety guidelines, practices, and policies.

Maintain neat, clean, and professional appearance.

Provide exceptional customer service, including assisting in identifying parts needed, offering options to solve customer problems, and diffusing situations involving upset or dissatisfied customers. Appropriately escalates issues when needed.

Possess a thorough understanding of pricing structure and customer discount availability; advise junior level Counter Sales as needed.

Research part availability through computers and catalogs for stock numbers, inventory status, and pricing.

Locate and pull parts for orders, check in, put up, straighten, dust, and rearrange stock as needed.

Handle cash and credit transactions; properly invoice/credit customer accounts. Assist junior employees with the process and train on correct handling as needed. Report concerns and identify improper transactions to the appropriate manager immediately.

Complete required training to stay current in industry knowledge and better serve customers.

Prioritize the order of delivery items and assign deliveries to drivers. Follow up on critical delivery items to ensure customer expectations are met.

Correctly handle new and defective core returns from customers, insure proper customer credit, and complete necessary paperwork.

Open and/or close store as scheduled.

Assist with home store inventory or inventory at other locations if assigned.

Clean (pick‑up trash, sweep, mop, etc.) and maintain inside and outside of building areas.

Perform potential supervisory duties in the absence of the store manager.

Assist other workers within the store and direct their tasks when needed.

Perform any other tasks as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent, or motivation to pursue a GED. Previous professional automotive parts counter sales experience and ability to reconcile/balance accounting figures. Prior leadership experience, or independent decision‑making abilities preferred.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully an individual should have basic computer knowledge including web browsing and knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid driver’s license (Class E required for all Missouri locations) and clean driving record.
