Senior Sales Engineer
Butcher Power Products, Rancho Cordova, CA, United States
Butcher Power Products (BPP) designs and manufactures mission‑critical and industrial power solutions for essential infrastructure nationwide. Headquartered in Sacramento, CA, our teams collaborate closely across engineering, manufacturing, and operations to build reliable, high‑quality systems and take pride in delivering work that truly matters.
Job Description The Senior Sales Engineer is a highly technical, solutions‑driven role responsible for translating complex customer requirements into engineered, manufacturable solutions. This position is not a traditional sales role—success is driven by technical depth, manufacturing knowledge, and the ability to design feasible solutions within real‑world production constraints.
This role partners directly with customers, Engineering, Operations, and Production to scope, validate, and deliver engineered‑to‑order or manufacturing‑based solutions. You will act as the technical authority throughout the sales process, ensuring solutions are viable, scalable, and aligned with manufacturing capabilities. As a senior technical contributor, you will influence solution architecture, cost drivers, and production feasibility while supporting strategic, long‑cycle sales opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Lead complex, engineering‑driven sales opportunities from technical discovery through proposal and close
Serve as the technical authority for customers evaluating custom, engineered, or manufacturing‑based solutions
Translate customer requirements into manufacturable solutions, considering design constraints, materials, cost, lead times, and production capacity
Partner closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Operations to validate feasibility and solution approach
Lead deep technical discovery conversations focused on requirements, constraints, performance criteria, and use cases
Support solution scoping, BOM development, cost drivers, and margin considerations for complex deals
Develop and present technical proposals, solution narratives, and engineering‑based recommendations
Support RFQs, drawings, specifications, and technical reviews with customers
Participate in site visits, production walk‑throughs, and technical working sessions as needed
Mentor junior Sales Engineers on technical solutioning and manufacturing considerations
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or similar) or equivalent hands‑on manufacturing experience
7+ years in sales engineering, solutions engineering, applications engineering, or technical sales within a manufacturing or engineered‑products environment
Proven experience translating customer needs into engineered, manufacturable solutions
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, production constraints, cost drivers, and lead‑time impacts
Demonstrated ability to partner cross‑functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Operations
Experience supporting complex, long‑cycle sales involving technical validation and multiple stakeholders
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences
Experience contributing to pricing strategy, technical feasibility validation, and solution scoping
Proficiency with CRM systems, Microsoft 365, and technical documentation tools
Willingness to travel locally or regionally for customer and site engagements
Preferred / Strongly Desired
Hands‑on manufacturing experience (industrial, electrical, power distribution, engineered‑to‑order, or similar environments)
Experience working with RFQs, BOMs, drawings, specifications, and technical documentation
Background in applications engineering, systems engineering, or product engineering
Familiarity with margin drivers, labor/material tradeoffs, and manufacturing scalability
Experience supporting custom or low‑to‑mid volume engineered products
Prior mentorship or technical leadership experience
Why Join Us
Work on real, engineered products—not commodity sales
Be deeply integrated with Engineering and Manufacturing, not siloed sales
Solve complex customer problems with tangible, buildable solutions
Play a visible role in a growing manufacturing organization where technical expertise matters
Compensation The base pay range for this role is $120,000 – $155,000 per year.
