Our nonprofit client is seeking a Senior Designer to join its media and content team. Its media platforms include a flagship publication, digital newsletters, podcasts, and online content hubs that inform and connect professionals across the industry. The Senior Designer will play a key role in shaping the visual direction of a flagship publication and supporting digital and event-related creative initiatives.
This position requires a strong balance of concept development, hands-on execution, and production expertise. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working across both print and digital platforms, maintaining brand consistency while delivering compelling visual storytelling.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and execution of editorial layouts and publication covers with a strong and consistent visual voice
- Develop creative assets across print and digital channels, including web content and event-related materials
- Partner closely with editorial stakeholders to align on content direction and storytelling approach
- Create engaging digital content, including newsletters and long-form features, with a focus on usability and audience engagement
- Ensure all creative work aligns with brand standards and maintains a high level of quality
- Manage multiple projects and deadlines within a fast-paced production environment
- Take ownership of projects by proactively driving timelines and anticipating needs
- Explore and implement new tools and technologies (including AI) to enhance efficiency and creative output
- Contribute innovative ideas to elevate storytelling across platforms
- Maintain awareness of industry trends and bring forward-thinking design solutions
- Support the development and maintenance of design systems and asset libraries
- Oversee full production processes, including prepress, ensuring files meet final output standards
Requirements
- 5–8+ years of experience in editorial design, publishing, or media environments
- Strong portfolio showcasing layout design, typography, and visual storytelling across print and digital formats
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects independently in deadline-driven environments
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including editorial and marketing
- High attention to detail with a commitment to quality and consistency
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator); familiarity with CMS platforms is a plus
- Experience mentoring junior designers or working with external partners is a plus
- Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to navigate competing priorities
