The Opportunity The Underwriting Assistant supports the Healthcare Medical Malpractice underwriting team by providing administrative, analytical, and operational assistance throughout the policy lifecycle. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate risk documentation, policy issuance, endorsement processing, and underwriting workflow efficiency for medical professional liability accounts, including physicians, groups, clinics, hospitals, and allied healthcare providers.

The salary range:
for this role is between $64,000-$120,000
Your New Role Underwriting Support
Assist underwriters in the evaluation and processing of medical malpractice submissions, renewals, endorsements, and non-renewals
Prepare underwriting files by gathering applications, loss runs, credentialing information, contracts, and exposure data
Enter and maintain accurate risk, policy, and exposure data in underwriting and policy administration systems
Policy Administration
Prepare policy documentation, binders, endorsements, certificates of insurance, and policy issuance materials
Process policy changes, cancellations, reinstatements, and renewals in a timely and accurate manner
Coordinate with internal teams (operations, compliance, claims, actuarial) to resolve policy-related issues
Track critical underwriting deadlines and maintain renewal and submission pipelines
Broker & Customer Interaction
Serve as a point of contact for brokers and internal partners for administrative underwriting inquiries
Request and follow up on missing information from brokers or insureds
Provide professional and timely responses to routine questions regarding policies and documentation
Process & Operational Support
Support underwriting workflow efficiency through accurate data entry, documentation, and tracking
Assist with operational reporting, audits, and quality assurance reviews
Identify opportunities for process improvement within underwriting operations
Preferred Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred
Experience in insurance, underwriting support, or policy administration (healthcare or professional liability preferred)
Basic understanding of insurance principles and policy structures
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
Preferred Competencies
Experience with medical malpractice or healthcare professional liability products
Familiarity with underwriting or policy administration systems
Exposure to healthcare provider risk profiles (e.g., physicians, allied health, hospitals, clinics)
Progress toward or interest in insurance designations (e.g., CPCU, AU)
Experience in underwriting operations
Experience in the insurance industry
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong data entry accuracy and document management ability
Analytical mindset with the ability to summarize underwriting information
Customer‑service orientation with internal and external stakeholders
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); underwriting systems experience a plus
Compensation Package The salary range for this role is provided above. This is the national range for the locations listed. The salary offer will be decided based on the role's complexity, its location, and the candidate's professional background, including their education and experience. Beyond the base salary, regular full‑time and part‑time employees will also be eligible for QBE's annual discretionary bonus plan based on business and individual performance.
