Overview The Arizona Food Bank Network (AzFBN) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit hunger fighting organization looking for a Senior Director of Development. In this position, you will be responsible for different aspects of a well‑rounded fundraising program, with the ability to build on areas of opportunity for current and future growth in this established program. Specifically, expertise in middle and major donor programs, monthly giving, and best‑in‑class stewardship will be used to grow this mature program. Additional tasks will be working with vendors on direct mail and foundation and corporate grants. Marketing and Communications report to this Director, who will also construct strategies and calendars to guide the organization’s external presence to broad audiences. This position will oversee a team of three (2.5 FTE) dedicated to Marketing and Communications and Fundraising, as well as contractors that work on fundraising deliverables. The goal is building capacity for a well‑rounded fundraising program in an established environment. This position is based in Phoenix, where AzFBN operates on a flexible hybrid schedule that includes the ability to regularly work remotely.

Position Description The Senior Director will be responsible for critical elements of the AzFBN development plan, including but not limited to stewardship of donors at all giving levels, solicitations to current and prospective donors, creating and executing a fundraising plan, reporting metrics to leadership, maintaining financial projections, and overseeing data management in the AzFBN DonorPerfect and EveryAction databases. Key to the plan’s success will be robust strategies for middle and major donors. In Marketing and Communications, the Senior Director will guide staff and work with AzFBN colleagues to manage the organization calendar, and ensure that social media, traditional media, and online channels reflect a unified brand and organization‑wide priorities.

Primary Responsibilities

Solicitation of individual donors via email, direct mail, in person, and other methods from planning through execution, managing a comprehensive solicitation calendar

Represent fundraising for the AzFBN Leadership Team, updating metrics and providing narratives for use in financial explanations

Oversee storytelling and earned and paid media to further the AzFBN brand

Develop and execute strategy for all donor stewardship in partnership with staff and the AzFBN Executive Team, including tactics such as thank you letter writing and programming (both electronic and physical/snail mail) thank you calls, and planning and managing small stewardship events (webinars, small gatherings)

Support for strategies to enhance giving from donor advised funds (DAFs)

Management of data integrity and full use of software at AzFBN used to fundraise, primarily (but not limited to) DonorPerfect and EveryAction

Grants program management including overseeing contract personnel as well as writing, prospecting, and reporting

Middle and major donor case management as well as custom communications plan for each audience

Requirements Minimum Qualifications for Education, Training and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

At least five years of professional fundraising/development experience with preference for experience in hunger and/or human services organizations

Excellent communication skills, including knowledge of different media uses for storytelling; willingness to gather this content and oversee its use

Experience leading a team to form strategy and produce results

Presentation and communications skills that are adaptable by audience, including donors, board members, food bank personnel, and the general public

Exposure to all forms of nonprofit marketing including social media, paid/earned/owned placements in traditional media and online advertising, and knowledge of processes and standards for a healthy mix of content across channels

Technology adept (for working with email send utilities, donor database, and other office systems) with a strong interest in segmentation, data integrity, and reporting

An interest in leading, managing, and creating new fundraising streams, including social media fundraising, text to give, and middle/major donor case management

Deep empathy for diverse cultures, people, and experiences

Experience conveying the complexities of fundraising to internal and external audiences

Skills negotiating multiple priorities together with colleagues to ensure unified external voice; strong collaborative nature in work relationships and high emotional intelligence

Valid Arizona Driver’s License and willingness to travel routinely in Maricopa County and beyond, especially to the AzFBN warehouse in Rio Rico, primarily for donor visits.

Salary Range The range for this position is $95,000 - $105,000 and is dependent on experience and qualifications. Note that AzFBN implements a hybrid model for in‑office presence, including a mix of dedicated work from home and in office days. Some of the interview process will be in person.
