Your role at Baxter
As an Intake Specialist for our Respiratory Health business unit, you will have a critical role in interfacing with new and existing patients, while continuing to exceed customer expectations. These include establishing initial contact with patients/caregivers, verifying insurance benefits, and (as needed) securing a payment plan when a new order is received for Respiratory Health equipment.
This role utilizes online payer portals, and calls insurance companies to obtain all necessary information on benefits to determine coverage and payer requirements. The Intake Specialist secures information from the patients/caregivers to support medical necessity for reimbursement; reviews the prescribed therapy and its benefits, the in‑home training process, the outcomes monitoring program, and the reimbursement process including financial assistance and payment plan options with the patient/caregivers while providing superior customer service.
What you will be doing at Baxter
Verify insurance benefits, payer requirements, and assess coverage to support clean claims and revenue accuracy
Collect, validate, and accurately document patient medical, insurance, and demographic information through patient/caregiver interviews
Review face‑to‑face documentation and evaluate eligibility and risk prior to device shipment
Educate patients/caregivers on therapy benefits, adherence, and financial responsibility, including payment plans and financial assistance
Initiate and manage required documentation (TCR, ABN, waivers) and follow up on forms and applications as needed
Maintain timely, accurate documentation of all communications and events in compliance with policies and regulations
Collaborate cross‑functionally with internal teams, Sales Enablement, and Account Executives to coordinate training and optimize patient outcomes
Facilitate ongoing patient follow‑up and manage device returns when therapy is no longer beneficial
What you will bring to Baxter
3+ years relevant experience, preferably in health insurance and/or durable medical equipment.
Associate degree or higher.
High level of reasoning ability to successfully resolve a variety of patient and business issues.
Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication and presentation skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Software.
Third Party payer experience.
Experience with TIMS.

At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all our employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. This position has a base salary range of $51,200 to $70,400. The actual salary may vary based upon several factors including relevant skills/experience, time in the role, business line, and geographic/office location.
