INVESTIGATIVE REPORTER - WIS-TV

An Investigative Reporter at WIS joins a market-leading, award-winning local newsroom to research, develop, and create investigative content for all platforms. The ideal individual is an aggressive self-starter with a knack for captivating storytelling and a dogged pursuit of solutions-driven journalism. Your knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act and other civil rights will help you hold the powerful accountable, give voice to the voiceless, and empower audiences with information that impacts their lives.

Responsibilities

Shoot, write, edit, and publish video investigative journalism for multiple platforms

Plan and produce both long- and short-term investigative projects on a shared calendar with other stakeholders

Manage deadlines while remaining responsive to the demands of the newsroom

Develop sources and leads that help uncover exclusive content

Present information in a fair, unbiased manner

Focus on investigative storytelling that adds depth and context to the newsroom’s coverage of events

Work closely with News leadership and other key stakeholders

Build, maintain, and utilize databases to reveal critical information and facts

Qualifications

3-5 years’ experience as an Investigative Reporter

Refined ability to write for both broadcast & digital presentation

Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field

Understanding of and adherence to AP Style for digital platforms and broadcasting writing for TV

Ability to operate a field camera, editing, and lighting equipment

Ability to lift/carry equipment ranging from 35-50 lbs

Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

Represent WIS professionally/responsibly in the community and newsroom, online and in person

Must have the desire to win, reflect critically on your work, and apply feedback
