SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for overseeing Exceptional Scholars Services (ESS) program, compliance, and related services personnel which under the direct supervision of the Director of Exceptional Scholar Services.
QUALIFICATIONS/MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS A. Required:
Minimum of a Master’s Degree
Valid Arizona Special Education Teaching Certification OR related services certification/licensure
Three years of experience in special education programs or related field
Thorough working knowledge of the various laws, regulations, theories, teaching/therapy strategies, and techniques applicable to special education and related services
Equivalent combination of education/training/experience
Valid AZ Driver’s License
AZ IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card / Background and Criminal History Clearance.
First Aid and CPR Certification.
B. Desired:
Previous experience in a supervisory position
Five years of experience in special education programs or related field
Evidence of continued professional growth in special education or related area
SKILLS, FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for assisting Director of ESS maintaining legal compliance for ESS programs, as assigned
Assists related service providers with planning, developing, and evaluating learning experiences for scholars
Assists with recruitment for ESS staff positions
Assists with screening, employment recommendations, and assignment of duties
Completes formal and informal observations in both ESS and Intervention classrooms
Works as the ESS instructional coach for all ESS teachers at all Arizona campuses
Provides monthly ESS professional development for each campus focusing on the campuses specific areas of need
Meets periodically with Director of ESS, District Level Administration, or School Site administration keeping them informed about the programs, needs, solicits their suggestions for program improvements, and/or expansion
Works closely with families, and school teams to resolve issues
Ability to sit for prolonged periods, provide direction to others, make independent judgments, keep and maintain accurate records, meet deadlines, communicate with individuals of varied cultural and educational backgrounds, and communicate in oral and written form
Exhibits patience, courtesy and tact when dealing with others
Performs other related duties as assigned
