We are seeking an Interior Designer to support the Medical and Engineering Departments at the Long Beach Veterans Affairs Healthcare System (LBVAHCS) under the Temporary Professional Staffing Services contract with the Department of Veterans Affairs. The role is on-site, 40 hours per week, 8 hours per day at 5901 E. 7th Street, Long Beach, CA 90822.

Job Purpose The Interior Designer will work in the Engineering Service Planning’s Interior Design Section and oversee major project activations, moves, space planning, and budgeting. The position is contingent upon contract award and will report to the respective Section Supervisor.

Responsibilities

Develop interior design solutions for healthcare and administrative spaces across major projects.

Prepare detailed AutoCAD drawings, plans, sketches, and visual design presentations.

Analyze architectural drawings and create FF&E layouts aligned with building codes.

Interpret and review plans for compliance with VA standards and specifications.

Produce procurement packages including scopes of work, specifications, budgets, and cost estimates.

Manage procurement processes, vendor coordination, and delivery/installation schedules.

Maintain design documentation, resource libraries, and project records for construction projects.

Oversee installation activities, direct crews, and resolve punch list items.

Coordinate with stakeholders and manage activation project schedules and communications.

Assess operations, recommend improvements, and support transition and move‑in planning.

Qualifications

Authorization to permanently work in the United States without sponsorship.

Bachelor’s Degree or 8‑10 years of professional interior design experience.

Familiarity with Patient‑Centered Care culture in healthcare.

Ability to review and interpret blueprints and specifications.

Skilled in free‑form drawing and drawing to scale on a job site.

Project Management Certification, Evidence‑Based Design Accreditation and Certification, and/or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.

Expertise with recommendations for selection, specification, procurement, and placement of furnishings.

Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint & Outlook).

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with contractors, management officials, vendors, Contract Officers, and Long Beach staff.

Desired Certifications (Extra Credit)

National Council for Interior Design Qualification.

Familiarity with Microsoft Project & Revit – beneficial but not required.
