Position Title:
Financial Aid Advisor
The Financial Aid Advisor plays a crucial role in guiding students through their financial aid options, ensuring they have access to necessary resources for their education. This position requires a strong understanding of Title IV Financial Aid, including Direct Loans and Pell Grants, as well as compliance with federal regulations. The advisor will engage with prospective and current students, helping them navigate their financial aid packages and eligibility requirements. Challenges may arise from addressing diverse student needs, necessitating a hands‑on approach and effective communication skills. A commitment to student success and the ability to work in a collaborative, close‑knit team environment are essential for this role.
Financial Aid Advisor Responsibilities
Meet with prospective and current students to discuss financial aid options
Determine eligibility and structure aid packages (Direct Loans, Pell Grants)
Award and process financial aid
Request and manage disbursements
Disburse aid and ensure accuracy in student ledgers
Conduct exit interviews and complete required documentation (including loan counseling)
Process student drops and withdrawals
Complete R2T4 calculations and summariesMonitor Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)
Compile daily tuition deposits
Monitor weekly tuition payments and maintain current accounts receivable
Manage collections process
Handle county billing (if applicable)
Ensure compliance with Department of Education (Title IV) regulations
Prepare and complete federal reports (quarterly and annual)
Support or complete IPEDS reporting
Assist with audits and compliance reviews
Manage default prevention efforts
Maintain familiarity with SAM.gov
Financial Aid Advisor Requirements
1-2 years of experience in financial aid
3-5 years of experience in financial aid is preferred
Experience with Title IV Financial Aid (Direct Loans & Pell Grants) is required
Exposure to IPEDS and federal reporting is required
High school diploma is required
Proficiency in Word and Outlook is required
Experience working within financial aid is required
Familiarity with clock hour programs is preferred
