SEASONAL - Day Camp Director for Youth with Disabilities (PT Rec & Camp Support)
About the Job: Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services seeks an energetic, positive Day Camp Director for children with disabilities - ages 6 to 18.
Job Type: Seasonal
Work Schedule: Discovery Camp - Monday - Thursday - 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. OR Teen SCOPE Camp - Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday - 9:0 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. No work the week of June 29 - July 3.
Work Location: 1628 W. Bijou Street, Colorado Springs, CO
This position is subject to budget required furloughs to be implemented in the 2026 calendar year, and any furloughs subsequently approved.
This is a seasonal (at-will) position with benefits limited to those required by applicable state and federal laws, which include Worker's Compensation, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance, and PERA (Public Employees' Retirement Association).
Anticipated dates of employment are from May through July. Work schedule will be weekdays, vary depending on camp location, and be between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Total hours worked not to exceed 1,500 annually.
As a Day Camp Director, you will:
Primary oversight of daily program functions, including monitoring and supervising staff in the active leadership of the program
Oversee planning, preparation, implementation, and evaluation of age and ability-appropriate programs for youth ages 6 – 18 with disabilities modeling both Recreation Services Program Standards and the State of Colorado Childcare Licensing Guidelines; ensure the quality of all programs
Engage positively with children and maintain strong communication and relationships with parents/caregivers and staff
Complete program and administrative reports accurately and on time, document behaviors per Behavior Management Guidelines and report accidents or concerns to the Camp Supervisor
Serve as lead worker by performing program duties while overseeing work quality, training, and instruction
Maintain open communication with supervisors and coworkers and support administrative decisions
Implement activities for special events while complying with facility setup/takedown procedures and returning program space as it was received
Attend all required trainings and complete State Licensing certifications to ensure compliance with City, divisional, and State guidelines
Lead effective staff meetings and actively participate in ongoing staff trainings
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
Knowledge of child developmental stages and positive behavior management skills
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Ability to prioritize, think, and work independently; problem solve; and complete tasks in a timely manner
Excellent leadership skills
Have experience supervising staff and volunteers
Have experience/education working with individuals with disabilities
Experience working in a day camp setting
Possess a high school diploma or GED
Possess three years (5460 hours) of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience working with school-age children
Possess, or obtain within 30 days of hire, First Aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation certifications
Physical Demands:
This position requires the ability to stand, sit, stoop, walk, climb, bend, and lift up to 75 lbs. frequently.
