The opportunity: Leads the design, execution, and continuous improvement of capital processes and portfolio management for the Corrugated division, across ~200-250 projects totaling ~ $250- $300M in any given year. This role ensures rigorous financial evaluation, disciplined governance, and reliable execution from project development through completion. Acting as a trusted partner across Finance, Engineering, Operations, EHS, and Procurement, this leader brings structure, clarity, and accountability—elevating how capital investments are prioritized, sourced, and delivered.
How you will Impact Smurfit Westrock: Capital Process Ownership & Continuous Improvement
Own and continuously refine the end-to-end capital process, from project intake through post-completion review
Identify breakdowns in process or handoffs and implement improvements that increase speed, quality, and predictability
Drive adoption of standard processes while remaining pragmatic to operational realities
Maintain a real-time, enterprise view of the capital portfolio, ensuring clear prioritization and alignment to business objectives
Enable effective trade-off decisions by bringing transparency to constraints, risks, interdependencies, and sourcing considerations
Partner with leadership to ensure capital is deployed against the highest-value opportunities
Ensure all projects are supported by sound financial analysis, including ROI, IRR, clear benefits, and well-defined assumptions, when appropriate
Lead a structured capital planning process with clear prioritization criteria and scenario analysis
Drive forecasting accuracy and visibility into spend and cash flow
Procurement Partnership & Value Optimization
Partner closely with Procurement to align capital execution with category strategies and sourcing plans
Ensure early engagement of Procurement in project development to drive competitive bidding, supplier alignment, and total cost optimization
Reinforce discipline around vendor selection, contract alignment, and value realization across the portfolio based on objective criteria
Promote a total cost of ownership mindset, balancing price, performance, and long‑term value
Execution Alignment & Performance
Provide clear, consistent reporting on portfolio health—schedule, spend, risks, sourcing status, and outcomes
Establish performance metrics that connect financial expectations with execution and procurement outcomes
Engineering, Operations & Cross-Functional Leadership
Work closely with Engineering and Operations to strengthen upfront project definition and scope clarity
Improve coordination between planning, sourcing, and execution to reduce rework, delays, and cost variability
Influence outcomes through data, structure, and credibility—constructively challenging assumptions and legacy practices
What you need to succeed:
8–12+ years of experience spanning capital projects, engineering, finance, procurement, or portfolio management
Experience operating in large, complex capital environments ($100M+ portfolios)
Strong financial acumen, including capital evaluation and forecasting
Strong knowledge of the PAS tool and functionality
Demonstrated ability to build or improve processes that drive consistency and performance
Experience partnering with Procurement or managing supplier/OEM relationships is strongly preferred
Proven track record of influencing across functions and leading through ambiguity
Demonstrated leadership of cross-functional teams
