Temporary Part-Time Recreation Services Representative

The City is seeking a temporary, part-time Recreation Services Representative to perform a variety of support functions in the Recreation Division. This position plays an important behind-the-scenes role in ensuring community programs run smoothly and are well-supported. This ideal candidate is dependable, proactive, and takes pride in supporting programs that serve the community. This assignment will last approximately six months, however the exact duration is unknown. Incumbents will be scheduled approximately 16-18 hours per week. Closes the Centennial Park facility in support of scheduled user groups and programs. Monitors Teen Center participants to ensure safety, appropriate behavior, and adherence to established rules and guidelines. Greets visitors and provides accurate information regarding facility schedules, programs, and services. Assists with the setup and breakdown of special events, including arranging tables, chairs, and related equipment. Monitors facility cleanliness and addresses patron needs to maintain a safe and welcoming environment. Processes class registrations and facility reservations using ActiveNet registration software. Supports recreational activities under the direction of supervisory staff. Oversees facility use to ensure compliance with City policies and procedures. Assists with Concerts in the Park, including supporting ticket sales, managing crowd flow, completing event setup and cleanup, and transporting and organizing equipment and supplies between Centennial Park and City Park. Provides support for summer lunch and swim programs. Assists with the setup, cleanup, and supervision of Teen Center activities, including game areas, snack bar operations, youth crafts and reading activities, and open gym programs such as basketball, badminton, ping pong, futsal, and handball. Employment Standards & Special Requirements

Knowledge of: Basic office practices and procedures, including the use of computers and standard office software such as Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word. Principles and practices of customer service and public interaction. Safe work practices and general facility safety procedures. Basic custodial and facility maintenance practices. Proper English usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Recreation program support practices and general facility operations. Applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations related to assigned duties. Recordkeeping and basic data tracking practices. Ability to: Communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing. Provide courteous and professional customer service in person, over the phone, and via email. Perform detailed support work accurately and within established timelines. Follow oral and written instructions and apply established policies and procedures. Use initiative and sound judgment within defined guidelines. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, program participants, and the public. Work effectively with individuals of all ages and diverse backgrounds. Support recreation programs and activities, including setup, cleanup, and basic supervision. Maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming facility environment. Track basic program or facility information and maintain simple records. Education and Experience A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: Graduation from high school or possession of a General Educational Development (GED) certificate; and Either one year of related work experience in recreation programs, community services, customer service, youth programs, event support, facility operations, or a related field or as an intern in an accredited college/university graduate school program. Bilingual and biliterate proficiency in Spanish, as well as strong customer service experience, are both desirable. Physical Requirements The work requires regular exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force. Work regularly requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions; frequently requires pushing or pulling; and occasionally requires sitting, using hands and kneeling or crawling. Other Requirements During some assignments, such as Concerts in the Park, employees will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions and extreme heat.
