Responsibilities
Serves as a Child and Youth Services (CYS) Assistant Director of a CYS Program with responsibility for assisting the supervisor in the operation of an assigned CYS program IAW all applicable regulations and standards.
Provides program oversight and accountability for the performance of assigned staff and the safety and well being of children and youth IAW DoD, Army and local policies and standards.
Assists in maintaining DoD/Army certification for assigned program areas, and helps ensure program achieves and retains national accreditation or Army equivalent and maintains accreditation/Army equivalent standards.
Provides appropriate staff professional recognition and/or disciplinary action. Conducts written observations of staff during all hours of operation, and evaluates employees based on established performance standards.
Works cooperatively with other CYS Managers to ensure seamless service and continuity of quality options for all children and youth. Serves as member of the CYS Program Plan Team to develop written strategies for program improvement.

A one‑year probationary period may be required.
Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E‑Verify) check.
Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment.
Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre‑employment checks in accordance with AR 215‑3, para.2 to include a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation.
The Crime Control Act must be successfully completed and maintained.
Satisfactory performance, successful completion of training requirements and demonstrated on‑the‑job competency is required.
Travel to on and off post locations required.
Must have a current health assessment which documents good mental and physical health, freedom from communicable disease, and immunizations IAW current Army and DoD policy to include annual influenza vaccinations.
Educational and Degree Requirements
Successful completion of a 4‑year college or university degree with a major course of study directly related to the appropriate CYS field consistent with Army educational requirements (e.g., child development, early childhood education, elementary education, special education, or related behavioral science).
Proof of education is required at the time of application. General education courses do not count toward the credit total.
Experience and Qualification Requirements
Experience that involved teaching children or other work that demonstrated the ability to perform the duties of the position.
Ability to select, train, and supervise childcare and preschool employees, family childcare providers, or other care‑givers.
Ability to develop and implement child development programs, including family day‑care programs, part‑day preschool programs, and before‑and‑after school programs.
The ability to plan and organize work, analyze problems, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions.
Comprehensive oral, communication, and analytical writing skills, and the ability to present ideas and proposals to a variety of audiences.
Successful completion of at least 24 semester hours in a major course of study in education or an appropriate CYS field and appropriate work experience that provides knowledge, skills and abilities directly related to the duties described.
3 months of directly related work experience teaching children or similar work equivalent to at least the next lower grade or level requiring application of the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position.
