New Jersey Consortium for Immigrant Children Overview
The New Jersey Consortium for Immigrant Children (NJCIC) works with New Jersey’s young immigrants and their allies to advance their full, fearless participation in our society. NJCIC seeks lawful status for immigrant youth and engages in policy advocacy for system-wide change in the areas of education, access to justice, and health equity. NJCIC’s Legal Program provides direct immigration legal services to youth under 21 in removal defense and applications for asylum, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) and other benefits, and serves as the intake and referral hub for unaccompanied children and similarly-situated youth seeking help from a state-funded program providing free immigration legal representation. We empower immigrant youth and families by conducting Know Your Rights sessions and developing youth-oriented educational materials and improve representation and advocacy on behalf of all of NJ’s immigrant youth by convening our Consortium members for trainings and bimonthly provider meetings. NJCIC is seeking a passionate, highly motivated, and results oriented Director of Development to join our Senior Leadership team. The Director of Development will lead our fundraising strategy and implementation. This position will work hand-in-hand with the Executive Director and fellow directors to ensure that NJCIC achieves its annual fundraising goal of $2.5+ million from institutional funders, individual giving, and annual fundraising events. The Director of Development will oversee, manage, and direct all individual, corporate, and foundation development activities for NJCIC. The ideal candidate is self-directed and self-motivated and will have experience in community-centered fundraising, with an eye toward organizational growth. A successful candidate will help the organization reach its goal by sustaining and growing NJCIC’s fundraising infrastructure to support efficient and consistent donor cultivation; setting and overseeing the annual fundraising plan; researching, prospecting, cultivating and managing strong relationships with donors; and coordinating internal subject matter experts to support fundraising activities, including documenting and tracking donation information and partnering with our Executive Director to prepare grant letters of interest, proposals, and reports. Duties and Responsibilities Non-profit fundraising: Lead a comprehensive and diverse fundraising development strategy to sustain and grow the contributions revenue of NJCIC. Maintain and grow the organization’s donor management infrastructure. Leverage and grow NJCIC’s internal and external relationships to scale contributions. Develop and manage the annual fundraising budget, goals, and strategy, including tracking and reporting results. Serve as NJCIC’s fundraising subject matter expert; craft fundraising communications, cases for support, pitches for donor support, along with all donor correspondence. Donor cultivation and relationship management: Identify and cultivate relationships with prospective foundation and corporate donors. Plan and lead donor cultivation events. Maintain and nurture existing donor relationships, ensuring timely and personalized communication. Arrange and attend meetings with prospective and current donors. Support the Executive Director in research, preparation, documentation, and follow-up of any donor meetings she is attending. In collaboration with the Executive Director and Board of Trustees, oversee new Board member prospecting and engage Board members in the organization’s fundraising strategy. Research and Grant Writing: Conduct in-depth research on potential funding opportunities and grant prospects. Draft, edit, and submit compelling letters of interest, proposals, and reports. In coordination with NJCIC’s Senior Leadership Team, track and project manage ongoing grant activity. Data Management: Maintain accurate donor records and grant information thereafter. Track and report on fundraising progress, donor interactions, and grant outcomes; create and manage the annual fundraising calendar. Bachelor’s Degree required. At least 5-7 years of development, fundraising, and grant management experience. 3+ years of experience fundraising $1 million or more a year. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Experience successfully spearheading in-person and digital fundraising events – such as end-of-year campaigns, walks, galas, or other fundraisers. Prior experience significantly growing a development function at a non-profit, highly desirable. A deep commitment to immigrants’ rights and dismantling racially and socially unjust systems. A desire to grow a young organization and lead during times of ambiguity. This position will offer a competitive salary between $100,000-$130,000, depending on experience, with excellent benefits including health insurance, generous leave and 401(k) match. NJCIC has a hybrid work model - staff work a minimum of two days a week (Tuesday and Thursday) in person and the remaining days remotely. On-site work is conducted at an amenity-filled co-working space in Jersey City. Additional occasional travel to other events on non-office days and work meetings is also required.
